r154?

were can i pick a r154 tranny i now it should bolt right up to the orginal engine and brackets but do i have to change the flywheel and the clutch because the old tranny is the w58 transmission?

Any help would be greatly appreciated <--- i think that is how you spell that lol

ok

So the R154 does bolt up to the motor with stock postitions... the starter motors' gotta come out and that 's a bitch either way. I'm pretty sure you'll need a new flywheel although i'm not 100% Its just a rumor...

Now for some unappreciated 2 cents:
I don't know if you'll be really needing the R154 because unless your running some serious horses its not like you'll need the quicker throws.... your better off spending your money on the suspension and other stuff upgrades because HP is not all that makes or brakes a car.

I have a 86.5 and its got junk for HP but i can blow away a quicker car because i'm running 225 tires and i have strut bars and the supra has good suspension to begin with (TEMS? I don't get it). That combined with my rwdness provides much better handling than any prelude, civic, Passit, or Chevy cobalt "ss" with its "need for speed underground 2"ness

I would recommend getting an LSD before any tranny upgrade... flush all of your fluids (lord knows the last time mine was changed) get new brake pads if'n ya need to, just stuff that probably nobody else would think of is what's going to make you better than the next guy...

Ok to move to a R154 you need... well here... look at this link, scroll down a bit and it'll give you a list of what you need.

Also It looks like your car has the sports package due to the headlight washers. So most likely you already have a LSD. And since your car is a 88 or older I'm assuming, again from the picture of the front end having the full grill, it's probably a 3.93 rear end. 89+ turbo's <not sure on the N/A's> I think came with the 3.73.

From what I've read here and on other forums, the W58 manual tranny can hold up to 300-350 RWHP if you're nice to it. So unless you're planning on modding your car a bunch or swapping to a turbo the R154 isn't the best place to spend your money.

Shifter is the same. The end gear is different and the driven gear for the speedo is correspondingly different.

Congrats on bumping a three and a half year old thread... :frown:
