gas tank leak

I came home today and my garage smelled like gas.
so i checked under the supra and there was a puddle of gas on the garage floor from probably a 7 hr time period.

the leak is coming from the gas tank on the bottom where it is exposed.

i dont know why it is leaking...maybe rust got to it, or it was punctured?
whatever it was the guy who had it before me patched it up with something and i wanted to know what i could use to patch it up so i dont have to buy a new gas tank.

any suggestions?

btw: it only leaks when i fill up...but the leak is on the bottom of the gas tank. so that doesnt make sense why it will only leak when it is full...

It's leaking out near the top, but because of gravity, it's only appearing like it's coming from the bottom of the tank.

It's probably coming from where the filler neck bolts to the tank.

Is it coming from the drain plug?

sorry to steal thread but its related...

how would i seal around the drain plug. im about to empty my tank cause its been sitting with gas for over a year...

I believe there is a gasket, I drained and dropped my tank 4 times last year without changing the gasket. No leaks.

alright i think i know whats goin on

its not my drain plug but good idea

you know where the middle of the tank is...theres a lip of metal where they binded the two halves of the gas tank. that lip is corroted(i dont know how to spell) and seperating letting gas escape hense why it only leaks on a full tank...

now back to my question...does anyone know of any sealer/binder/epoxy that i should use on it to seal the lip back?
it has to be a sealer that gas cant eat away at

Just buy a new(ish) tank.

I've got one here that's absolutely mint, but I don't know what shipping would be to Ohio from MA, not to mention the limitations on shipping a used fuel tank...

personally, I would check the local junkyards...you'd be surprised what you find there, besides, it makes for a great fieldtrip...lol

i had the same problem. i bought a used tank and they did ship it to me.
