1JZ Swap... right hand drive conversion?
Well I have made my desicion and I decided that this summer the supra is gonna get the 1jz. I however have read that you need to lengthen the wiring harness by 3 feet. I realized that if I buy a front clip I basically have the resources to swap the motor and do a full RHD conversion. This would also eliminate having to lengthen the harness. Do you guys think that I should lengthen the harness or just convert to RHD? I mean it should be fairly simple. The only difficulty would be drilling the new holes for the steering and the pedals. Let me know what you guys think.
:umno: OR :bow: -------> RHD 1jz ?? |
Anyone?? How hard is it to do a right hand drive swap. Wouldnt it be better to just do the RHD swap then to cut and mess with the harness?
|
yeah it probably would be easier to buy a front clip then having to cut the harness.
|
i know... you should just buy a rhd 1jz powered supie! man id love to have a rhd car but to convert mine one would be way to difficult for me to do... id say just lengthen the harness if you are set on doing it

Sadly, there is a lot more difficult tasks than just drilling new holes for the steering and pedals. For one, you need to swap out the RHD rack and pinion for the steering, you'll need to drill new holes for the brake master cylinder, brake booster, and clutch master cylinder, redo the door harnesses if you want the master window switch on your side, drill holes for the ebrake and cable, change the center console out, drill new holes for the dash board, and put another dashboard in. Thats just a rough list. It's not even the correct way. The correct way is to cut off the firewall and weld in the RHD firewall. |
isnt it illegal to have a rhd vehicle here
cuz all rhd imports from japan have top be converted to lhd |
Legal...
I dont think its ilegal... And if it is, then pull me over.. I dont care. I just rather have to convert to RHD instead of messing with the harness.
|
its not illegal... look at all the rhd cars that have tags... skylines, imported supras, etc...

but a friend of mine imported a skyline here and thety made him convert it into a rhd b4 he could even get it licensed and legalized im not an expert when it comes to car beaurocracy but i have seen rhd vehicles with tags but i know it cost a crap load more money to get it my opinion: check state laws first see how much to convert it into a rhd what it needs to get legalized see how much to extend the harneses and see which one is more cost-effective |
probly depends on states and everything but when the car comes over you need to get the emissions changed over so that is street legal but i dont think they can make you convert your car to lhd if the car was manufactured that way? then again im not the smartest person when it comes to cars and emissions seeing how my car hasnt been inspected sence last year in jan! lol
