GOT MY FIRST SUPRA!Little help plz...

Well I just bought an 89 turbo supra for $2200. It runs great, and the turbo pulls like knew. There are only two minor problems. The dash gauges flicker on an off sometimes. And the low battery, open door, and ebrake light comes on once in a while(while driving). The second issue is that when I drive for a while, the car sometimes dies when i slow down for a redlight and have it in neutral. It just flutters and dies. But then starts right back up again. After I start it back up it will either idle perfectly or die again. This happens once in a while like after I drive it for a long period of time. Sometimes it doesnt happen at all. Does anyone know how to fix either of the problems??

I will post pics in a few days. :)

not sure on the idle/stall issue, But you have some kind of short in your dash for them to flicker. Or, you have a bad alternator. Mine had a dieing alternator and it would do that sometimes. Going down the highway when it would get hot, If i let the rpms get too high the voltage woule go all the way up to 18 and the lights in the dash would do weird things, along with my startup lights coming on (cel, coolant, voltage, etc). And then, if while this was happening, i touched my heater fan controls, the car would just die. for like 4 or 5 mins. no electircal power at all. Then i would be rolling to a stop and it would just come back, Then i would just let the clutch out and keep going. lol. It was very frustrating and I never ended up fixing it, but it was only those few really hot days in the summer it would do that.

The fluttering and dying roblem is a common sym-ptom of a vacuum leak or a leak in your air intake hose or air intake maifold. check those out for any leaks , including bad gaskets.

May want to check electrical grounding points in engine bay.Anywhere you see a wire bolted to random metal check for corrosion or rust.If it looks crappy clean it up with sandpaper or a wire brush and reassemble.Sounds like you just have basic maintence issues.Congradulations on the new ride - happy motoring!
