1988 supra. 350 v-8 engine swap?

any good links you guys know of where they did this swap. any info anyone can give me would be nice. i tried searching the site couldnt find anything. i bought the car about a year ago with dreams of building a bad ass turbo car. now i just want a fast as car without all the trouble of turbo's and electronics dont get me wrong turbos own. i just dont have alot of time to dump into the build. i train atleast 3 hours a day plus i have a job. thinks for reading.

das_reich1984 10-27-2006 02:04 PM

allso any recommendations. on Trany, rearend combo.

Das....just swap in the 2JZ...its cheaper and its easier. The V-8 swap is a p-ain in the arse. The wiring is diffrent and if you dont have alot of time than the V8 is not something you want to do.

das_reich1984 10-28-2006 09:57 AM

how much for everything i need to put in a 2jzgte. i broke the tranny when i took it out so i'm gona need one of them. computer and wiring harness.i dont see how this will be cheaper since i was going to put in a carburated v-8. the rubuild on the things are as cheap as a crankshaft for a 7mgte.

Isphius 10-28-2006 04:32 PM

It would def not be cheaper to put a 2jz in. lol. Whats good about a 350, You can get a stock HO with 330 hp and 380 ft lbs of torque. And it will last forever as long as you keep the temps down and the oil changed.

das_reich1984 10-29-2006 02:52 PM

i have found a 6sp transmission i'm thinking about using. my goal for the car is a faux ferrari. by that i mean high reving v-8,nice sound. the bank is gona kill me though.

Good luck with the swap.

Let me know how it goes, I'm interested. Particularly in the tranmission selection and work.

Gonna go with any kind of forced induction(Super, turbo, nitrous)?

Why not do an LS1 with a T56?

You can pick up a wrecked LS1 Camaro or TA for $3,500 and under.

Isphius 10-31-2006 02:08 AM

You will never be able to get an ls1 car that cheap. lol. At least not around here. Even a crashed trans am or camaro around here is 7 or 8k with all its drivetrain intact. Plus, LS1s are very expensive and hard to get parts for. Go with a straight up small block, the 55-86 kind. That is the most comon motor in the world. More than 55 million produced. And I would suggest going auto. No clutch to mate up, the shifter wont end up in the wrong place, etc. Then all you have to do, is measure your driveshaft and take it to a good shop to get it chopped down and get a chevy U joint put on the end. And then with a carb you dont have to worry about computers, wires, fuel return lines, sensors, etc. Just a fuel line, a few vaccum hoses, and a battery wire. lol. I would love to put some sidedraft carbs on a 7mge. Yay for power.

389 ci. chevy in 1986.5 supra

I started building a fast, reliable, cheap, sleeper. Out of a 1986.5 supra, of course the cheap didnt last too long with the 2-stage nitrous, forged pistons, forged crank, pink rod and 10.5 compression. backed with a 700-4r tanny. the einge only costed me 3, maybe 3500$. Any tips on enigne mounts was gonna go with front mounts but need to hook up a/c comp and P/S Too.

What about your guages how would you make the guages display what the new 350 and trany are doing, the guages run off the ECU dont they.

btwilson86 01-18-2008 10:44 PM

Using stock gauges probably won't work, due to differences in resistance values/wiring between gauges and sensors on the new motor. Would probably have to go with after market gauges that are wired independently. The ECU is only really needed with fuel injection/emissions controls, so if you're swapping in a carburetted 350, you're not gonna be able to pass emissions, and therefore don't need to worry about controlling them.

Unless you want to do your part in protecting the planet.
Then you should get a POS Prius.

i'd recommend a 1jzgte with r154 transmission and either a 3.73 lsd, 3.91 lsd, or 4.10 torsen. it will cost you no more than 6 grand

Dude have you cracked open a Jegs or Summit catalog lately? There are tons of LS1 parts. Including a cab mani out there. Check out some of thr RX7 websites. Those guys do LS1 swaps all the time. Might help. Good luck.

1987 Toyota Supra MKIII 350 Chevy V8 Vortec 700R4 Project Car

Here are a few videos of my 1987 Toyota Supra MKIII 350 Chevy V8 700R4 Swap. It's easy to do and probably cheaper than a rebuild or modified Toy motor.
