Audio/Firewall questions.

Guys I have been looking for the past 24 hours on every supra forum and search possible but i cant find an answer. I need to get through the firewall of an 87' Turbo 5-speed mk3. I've checked and its very cluttered on the drivers side with different components and its very hard to get underneath because of the clutch. I did it perfectly fine on my 90' n/a auto mk3 but I am stuck here. Please help!

And if i need to drill where do i drill? Pics welcomed!

nelly26 10-08-2006 08:01 PM

hi i have a mk3 as well but mine right hand drive i put power feed through the main gromit on passenger side of car with difficulti youll have to take gromit out and make a hole warning it is double skined pain in the ass

V1P3R 11-15-2006 07:36 PM

Anyone else have any other ideas or more detail on doing this?

I need to drill a hole or find a hole for my amplifier's power cable, and I cant find ANY breathing room. And its always a bad idea to start drilling blindly :D

Supra2NR 11-16-2006 03:15 AM

do it close to the clutch's master cylinder
there's enuff space there to put wires thru for ur amp

what gauge wires are u planning to use

damdog05 11-16-2006 03:48 AM

i put my power wire through a hole already in the firewall near near the master cylinder. inside it comes in back above the pedals. idk if everyone has that hole or if it was made by a previous owner of my car.

tellfromchico,ca 11-16-2006 06:15 AM

you can also feed it through with the speedometer cable just have to poke a hole through the boot

The speedo cable hole/boot/gromet was what I was going to suggest. The whole itself is plenty big for more cable. You may be able to squeeze your power cable along side the speedo cable current hole in the boot/gromet. If you can avoid taking that boot/gromet out do it...real pain in the butt to get back in properly. I would also feed your power wire (tape about a 3 inch stiff something to poke through)...feed from the outside (engine bay) in...then contort your body like some yoga dude under the dash and pedals, find it and pull. Good luck.

I had to run an 8 Gauge and a 4 Gauge so I ended up just picking up a metal drill bit and lettin it ride! I can't remember now cus this thread is actually kinda old, but I believe it was right under brake booster (or right around there)

V1P3R 03-21-2007 05:01 PM

Thanks for the help guys, Im just having the problem of not knowing where exactly to run the cable through from the engine bay? the thing is the cable is already run from the back of my car, so it would be going OUT through TO the engine bay, Anyone have any pictures or a REALLY detailed description? GREATLY appreciated!!!

This is where i drilled. You can see where it came out in the engine bay. It's 4 gauge wire going from my battery to my trunk.

j3pz 03-21-2007 09:56 PM

thats for an automatic, right? goes through the whole where the clutch pedal/ master cylinder would be. i had a friend install mine, drilled a hole where there was nothing on both sides, and put in a gromet. i dont have a pic, you just dont to get in there look and feel around

Hey thanks man, but when I just checked mine is set up differently being a 1989, that top left corner of the engine bay doesnt look like yours :(

Im not too great with cars, there is a resavoir where you drilled your whole through, im guessing clutch fluid since mine is standard transmission?

I cant seem to find ANY holes in the firewell or any space ANYWHERE to even attempt a hole.

This is killing me, I definitely dont want to drill in the wrong spot but I cant even find a spot TO drill!

I drilled mine in the top right if you were standing in front of the car as the viewpoint. It shouldnt be that different.

Yeah now I see, but where your hole is drilled there is a cable/hose leading to a resevoir mounted there with dark fluid inside. Small resevoir, im guessing its clutch fluid possibly? Sorry for being such a greenhorn!

j3pz 03-22-2007 02:50 PM

yes thats were the clutch master cylinder is. my whole was lower, under the steering linkage. if i can get a pic today i will.

How did you find any space down there? And where does it go through on the other side? A pic would be AWESOME!

redmaro 03-22-2007 08:44 PM

Any luck getting a pic?

I need to figure out how to wire the power wire for a Manual/5spd not Automatic, unless the Automatic is wired somewhere where the difference in transmission wont affect the location.

Thanks in advance to ANYONE who can help me out here!!

j3pz 03-29-2007 12:06 AM

V1P3R 03-31-2007 04:29 PM

Thanks a ton for the pics, what year is your car? And did you drill the hole or was it already there? Thanks again!

j3pz 04-01-2007 02:29 AM

that one is a 88 and my friend drilled it. be sure to fit it with a grommet so the metal doesnt cut up the wire

V1P3R 04-10-2007 05:02 AM

Thanks man! I know this would be a HUGE favor to ask, but is it possible for you to take a picture slightly farther away, so the wire is still in view. So I can see exactly where it is in relation to everything. its so tight and dark in the bay I cant really determine where you have done that.

Thanks in advance, if you cant thats ok ill eventually figure it out!

supramacist 04-10-2007 05:45 AM

You could take the scenic route and go through where all of the ac components go through as well. If you were so inclined.

j3pz 04-10-2007 06:51 PM

ill try to, i get another light also instead of relying on the camera's flash

Hmm, im a novice with this stuff, could there be any potential problems caused by messing around in ac components? I dont even think my AC works. I know it doesnt work now but maybe just needs to be recharged. I just need to get this wire hooked up asap, everything else is ready to go!

Thanks!

j3pz: Thanks man hopefully you can, appreciate your help!

j3pz 04-13-2007 04:01 AM

took the pics today, hope they are what you wanted. the batteries on my camera were dieing so the quality isnt the best.
