7MGTE vs 1JZGTE

well i was looking for a motor on www.osakajdmmotors.com , and found both of these. the 7MGTE was only $100 cheaper, i was a little suprised, because the 1jz has a better reputation, and it being twin turbo. the only reason i'm shying the idea of it is the lack of parts and aftermarket support.

can the parts from a 7mgte be used on a 1jzgtte? ive heard that parts from 2jzgte can be used on it, but i'm pretty sure those are just a tad more common

and also, if i were to buy just the engine, would finding a 5-speed tranny for the 1jz be relatively cheap/easy to find? and what else would i have to buy

(here's the link to the page..)

sorry if this has already been addressed, but i don't have much time to research and all, also the fact that i can get some direct answers from you guys, given my situation is alot more helpful

which one would you guys suggest? any info would be appreciated :]

first things first... the motor is called a 1jzgte not 1jzgtte

things you must also learn
engine types/models

examples
M series engine
JZ series engine
1G series engine

none of these engine numbers/letters are the same... i.e.. you cannot interchange parts

so to answer your question can 7M parts be used on a 1JZ, the answer is no

can 2JZ parts be used on a 1JZ... yes

your hardest part for the gearbox is finding a jz bellhousing (not sure if you guys get these over there, more than likely do, but you could get a w58 bellhousing from a jza80 non turbo mk4)

otherwise you would be searching in japan for an jz series bellhousing for a r154

good luck with your search

in my biased opinion i would hope that the 7m would prevail ;)

sorry, on the website it was called the 1JZGTTE, with TT being twin turbo and all that would make some sense (RB26DETT--also twin turbo), or is that just a toyota thing? correct me if i'm wrong

suprra_girl 10-05-2006 01:19 AM

well altho what you thought would make logical sense

you do stand corrected :p

nissan is TT
but toyota is just T

in the engine numbers they put t as meaning turbo whether it be one two or three :)

altho i haven't seen three in person yet :p haha

alright cool, i've been used to nissans, i just recently picked up my supra so i'm a little new to the toyota scene. i think it should be neccesary to put how many turbos are on the car in the engine code, just so when you mention it you know how much heat you're packin :]

single > twins :)

hich one is better??I saw the samething an I am thinking about buying the 1jz but I dont know what I will need to get the motor installed if I get the 1JZ.

Isphius 10-05-2006 04:55 PM

Its cheaper and easier to upgrade and rebuild the 7m, And way easier to install. Plus it has more displacement, Which our fat cars need. The only reason id say get a 1jz is if you want a car made of all stock toyota parts that will be faster and last a long time. But if you plan on upgrading stick with the 7m.

one big turbo will produce mroe boost and power than 2 smaller turbos. 2 6's carry less pwoer than 1 12. catch my drift main man?

but won't there be bad lag on the big turbo?

suprra_girl 10-06-2006 05:06 AM

that's where you need a good turbo shop and know your goals

therefore you pick the right turbo for your setup

if you're in for silly big big hp then get an absolute lag monster but use nos to spool it

if you want quick spool and big hp you can also get a turbo for that

it all depends on what you want to do with the car

ask kwnate what he's using... pretty impressive is his beast ;)

1jzgte

you will be so satisfied with the 1jzgte swap man its well worth the time and money, i did it at my dads shop over the winter last year and its amazing, ive driven bolth 7mgte supras and 1jz supra theres a big differance let me tell u. if your going to do it tho i would recamend that you buy a front clip of a 1jz supra, because u will need much more then just the engine, u need a tranny, ecu, wiring harness, intercooler, all the piping and a shit load of parts along the fenders in the engine bay that dont come with the engine that are near impossible to source. the clip is well worth the mooney, considering all the time u save. pluse u save money because all that stuff is expensive one its own. pm if u need any help. plus i can get u a clip if you need one.

gmansupra 10-01-2009 10:09 PM

he is right

i just finshed my ma70jz swap and do the clip it will save a lot of money. but like my studies taught me you need to look at do you need a front or rear sump pan because you will have to change the crossmember.
