88 saga

im 26 88t targa. mmmmmm

Cyberguy1992 04-06-2009 09:51 PM

Im 16 with a MKIII 87T Manual for my first car.

The only thing that isnt stock is the amount of pressure from the turbo... Its push 5 extra lbs 13 altogether... This car is awsome.

To all parents and future parents dont let your kids first car have over 250HP... let a car like this be their second car.... all im going to say is I'v had a few close calls and maybe its just me but i think most 16 yr old drivers think they can handle any thing.. but then again maybe its just me.

RamAirTurboPerformance 04-07-2009 05:56 AM

Im 43 and driveing it like im still 18

87mk111 04-08-2009 02:52 PM

I'm 2o and on my 4th car already (87 supra n/a). Myfirst car (90 Buick Lesabre) blew 2 engineshttp://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/...cons/icon8.gif, 2nd car (89 accord, still have it) needs a carb and exhausthttp://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/...ons/icon13.gif, and my 3rd car (96 integra gsr) was stolen 2 weeks after I got ithttp://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/...cons/icon9.gif. Hopefully I'll have the Supra for a while http://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/...ons/icon10.gif.

I'm the original owner of my 1988 Turbo Supra. Started using computers 8 years before I bought it. Still go faster than young boys in new cars.

My 19 and 16 year old sons beg me to drive it. Once they graduate college they may get a chance.

My 2 favorite sayings are:

If you didn't know what year you were born how old would you be?

and...

If you have NO FEAR...you're not driving fast enough!

mikeoc1 07-23-2009 04:09 AM

Does it go fast or just look fast?

Full ground affects and flames looks like it's ready for Le Man.

Igknyte 08-11-2009 06:25 PM

just turned 21 in july. first supra. lovin drivin it everywhere.
..still got a lot of work ahead of me tho.

need driver rear side window + moldings
rear window moldings

windshield - both wipers
antilock light is on - still havent figured out why... :dunno:
check engine light is on - did diag - code 52

coolant is coming out of the over-flow spew.. so from what i read on the forums im guessing a BHG:eek3:

needs new rims and tires. [ current rims are bent up - front rims are bent up i know the rear driverside rim is grinded all over the edge - not sure if i should keep them or replace them - what you guys think? ]
as far as the tires. the tires are in pretty good condition except for the rear passengerside is going bald.. :weak:

stock spoiler on passenger side the fiberglass thats supposed to be attatched to the trunk is broken

figure out why the rear wiper isnt working - replace the rear-wiper
figure out why the rear window washer spray isnt going

i think i have a power steering leak

so far for now i that i know needs to be worked on..

Sounds like a project. Depending on your time and money...
Best would be a full top-end (at least) rebuild to include a metal head gasket and ARP bolts torqued to the ARP values. If you rebuild the top replace all belts and hoses while you're at it. When the head is off, REPLACE THE EGR GASKET AFTER GRINDING BOTH SURFACES TRUE. So start with the engine and finish with paint, wheels and tires.

If money and time ARE a concern (like with most of us) I would figure out the overheating first. If you're not sure, take it to a mechanic. DON'T suggest BHG to him because he will just agree for the money. It may be radiator, heater plug, or a few other things. Once you get the overheating under control you can tinker with whatever you like in whatever order. I always say fix mechanical first, cosmetic last. BUT...tires are important and you can get a pretty nice set of wheels and tires from Tire Rack online for a good price...just to get you by until you're ready for the track. Don't go bigger than 17" until you know what you're doing.

17" seem to fit well with no homework. Going bigger takes proper thought and suspension unless you're only interested in the bling and don't care about performance, ride, or rubbing fender wells.

Zajnet 08-13-2009 09:54 PM

I'm 16 and I currently own 2 supras:
a 88T that is my daily
and a 88 N/A that is my parts car

Sure, Wilson. I'll post a few more. I've only had it a few days and already have a couple issues. Got some good experience? Let me now if you're up for some helpful troubleshooting. Thanks.

btwilson86 08-19-2009 05:37 AM

Dang, that is nice... Hopefully I'll get mine that clean some day...

Troubleshooting is what the forum's for, so when you got the time start a new thread with the problem so we can help.

setting sun 09-02-2009 03:45 PM

now i understand

no wonder i can't keep up to you folks with your 87's. i'm 63 and retired and i just bought my supra last week. it has 60,000 original miles, carfax, and dealers maintenance. for $4200 i thought it was a good price. body perfect, paint beautiful and everything works.

Both my cars have 18's, I did little homework and they fit fine with no rubbing issues. Did I mention they perform well and don't rub?

18x9 in front, 18x10 in the rear.

Blackdog 09-03-2009 05:09 PM

And it looks like mostly guys with the exception of Suppra Girl. Interesting poll.

My bad...I'm sure those 18's work fine for most street driving. I have 17's with TEIN flex coilovers on the stiffest setting and on track and under heavy breaking from about 130 mph into tight 70 mph turns they can rub the inside fenders on the front.

Did I mention for normal street driving they don't rub? But they're just 17's.

I have seen 1 or 2 Supra's with 18's and damaged fenders so I still say be careful going to 18's...unless you drive like a pussy.
