h34r: i was wondering if the ct-26 turbo could be upgraded to make 500rwhp reliably. if so, what upgrade is the best to reach this goal.
also, ive heard of people aiming for 500 hp saying they got bigger turbos or are just using a diff. turbo than the ct-26, wouldn't these other turbos have more lag? oh ya, this is for a street set up, no racing , daily 7day a week driver. h34r:

no, a ct26 can not handle 500hp, let alone at the wheels. 350 is the limit with a t04e wheel upgrade, due to the exhaust housing of the turbo being too restrictive. for a daily street driven car, 500rwhp is too much. for a daily, with a bit of grunt, i would recommend a upgraded ct-26, or a turbo along those lines, and a few other upgrades, and thats about it. enough grunt to still be fun, but not too much that you loose drivability and not as bad on the gas usage.

turbonetics use to sell an upgraded t26, but its max was 450. as for the lag, get nitrous. even as a daily driver, i doubt you'll be spraying light to light.

Default ct-26

I looked today and found a ct-26 upgrade that says it will make 650 hp,price is like 600 + a core if your ct-26 is un repairable. Is the ct-26 capeable of that if built right?

a ct-26 can be reliable probably up to about 450-500...i would say...650 is much.. send us a link or somtin and we'll take a look, if you get the turbo rebuilt with custom parts it should be able to handle more boost, but then again it would be a little smarter to run a bigger turbo if you want to make a lot of power, a rebuilt turbo is usually for people that want the car to stay a little more on teh stock side meaning...the car is more streetable kind of like the way it came from teh factory...but then again...the more power you make the less the car is comparable to stock....depending on how much power..or how you want the car to "behave" will determine which path you will take for the turbo situation

Usually they upgrade the turbo by making the compressor wheel larger, but since it's moving more air in, more air is coming out, and the exhaust side restricts it. They usually clip the fins on the exhaust, which frees it up, but adds lag.

Turbo should be the LAST thing you modify, not the first, as it's not even close to the weakest link in the system...

agreed, i say for the motor the breathability should be addressed first, intake, headers, exhaust the bpu of the supra, then u gotta do the head gasket if its not done alrdy, then u get into the heart of the project, valve train, internals, cams, crank shaft, clutch etc...
