1jz??????

Does anybody what kind of transmission is used with the 1jz and what kind of turbos that engine has. I was also told that the 1jz gives you less issues with overheating than the 7m-gte. Has anyone done a 1jz swap into a NA body?

Isphius 09-21-2006 04:20 PM

Dont quote me on this, but i think the 1jz comes with the same r154 as the 7m, and a slightly tougher automatic. Someone correct me if im wrong. And overall it is a better stock motor than the 7m, But i beieve the 7m has a lot more parts available and is a lot cheaper. It is also 3 liters instead of 2.5 so you have a little more torque and power cause of that once there both modded. But the 1jz is supposed to not have any headgasket problems like the 7m, But i would still upgrade it anyway, as with any high boost motor.

theyre almost identical engines
except for the fact that the 1jz came with twins
and i dont think it has the headgasket problem

but with the 1jz the aftermarket/part support isnt as strong as for the 7m
but when it all comes down to it, i think it depends on a person's preference

It uses the same 5 speed (r-154) with a different bellhousing.

Manual trans is an R154 like Nate and ISPHIUS said, and the auto tranny is the A340. The turbos are the CT12a.

weezl didnt say anything! lol. And there not really identical...None of the parts are interchangeable and they dont even look the same lol. But there both straight 6 toyotas....thats the good part

Dejvid1785 09-22-2006 02:26 AM

So they pretty much use the same drive shaft as the turbo supra since it is the same tranny. How hard is it to swap it over to an NA supra? Has anyone done it? Some guy at NOPI did it but it was a turbo supra to begin with. He told me it was pretty much plug n play is this true?

O, haha. I was in a rush. Sorry. I edited the post. Lol. Gotta give credit where its due.

I've jammed one in an NA 1986.5. It is pretty much plug and play, except for the fact you need to change the front crossmember to suit the ijz.

Dejvid1785 09-23-2006 10:35 PM

Are you kiddin me, there is no other major fabrications? What other problems did you run into? I'm really lookin forward to doin this swap, i need all the info i can get.

dcrusupra 09-24-2006 12:01 AM

Hey, sorry I didnt see ur I-M on aol. My bad. The only other thing that i can think of is the wiring. You'll have to extend it to reach all the dash components because the wiring harness is meant for a RHD.

Dejvid1785 09-24-2006 02:01 AM

Its ok man, i'm just tryin to get as much info as possible. There is always someone out there that knows more. If anyone knows more about the 1jz please write back.

Isphius 09-24-2006 03:45 PM

Yeah you immed me while i was outside or something too. sorry bout that. As far as the physical swap, Some people sell motor mounts for it, And i think you have to cut and weld the trans cross member to fit. And yes the ECU was meant for a RHD so some of the stuff wont be long enough. Ive never seen the swap in perosn thou :(

Dejvid1785 09-24-2006 04:50 PM

I met a guy at nopi last weekend and he did the 1jz swap but he went ahead and did the right hand drive also. He said it was all pretty much plug n play. My question is the drive shaft. Is it the same driveshaft of the 7m-gte supra since they are using the same tranny.
