car weight?
How much do our cars weight? On the drivers door it says 4600LB and on a web site i got on it says 3500ld.
Anywhere from 3300 to 3800. I think the 4600 you're seeing is GVW, which means what the cars maximum load is supposed to be with 4 passengers + trunk stuff.
that would suck cause i use two ton jack stands
aren't they two ton each though?
^^^ yes, 2-ton ea. And the stands will hold more than rated. But be careful with a 2-ton hydraulic jack. Seals have been known to blow.
Mine wieghs 3,780 with me in it...
Yeah jack stands are hard to break. Jacks will pop wheels off, blow out an oil seal, Fall over, etc. I hate jacks! Ive almost died a few times from having my old shitty jack and the car almost falling over onto my head, So i went and bought a brand new one haha

you're only supposto jack up half of the car not the whole thing with those jackstands. so thats half the weight of the car which makes you safe...right? |
No you can put the whole car on jacks. It's actually safer. No wheel chocks to worry about, car won't roll, etc... Working under a car with just the JACK is unsafe at best, and deadly at worst... Always use jack stands...
so to recap, 4 2 ton jack stands = 8 tons of holding ability. 1 2 ton jack = only 4000lbs for SHORT periods of time. |
Yes, never go under a car with just a jack holding it up. I use these big(about 2 feet across) logs me and my dad cut up ( i know, very very redneck) But they DO NOT move, in any direction. lol.
