My 88 turbo has this same exact problem. Its very hard to start when cold, and it runs like balls untill its a little warm and over 1k rpms. I alos have an automatic, but is yours a turbo? I checked my codes and im getting 12 and 14, check yours. Thats something to do with spark and CPS sensor. My headgasket is blown so i havent had time to give it a real diagnosis, But Playing with the cps timing(not sure if i retarted or advanced it) seemed to help it a lot. But i think it just resets its timing after a while because it got just as bad
