engine cuts and dies

hello, I have been reading the forum for a while and hate to make my first post with one of these problem questions but I'm in need of some help.

I seem to be having an issue with my 1989 mkIII Turbo. As I am driving, if I accelerate and get the rpm's to rise quickly and then depress the clutch, the engine will cut out if I let the rpm's fall back down to idle and not shift into another gear. In some cases when the car approaches idle the check engine light comes on for a breif second and if I see the light I usually press the gas a bit to prevent the car from dieing. If the engine dies, however, all the car electrronics and (radio and ventilation) are still working but the power steering does not work and the steering is stiff and the dash will display the battery warning light. Whenever this happens I re-ignite the engine and it starts without any issues.

Has anyone experienced this or know what I should be checking? Also, woud checking engine diagnostic codes be a useful idea?

Thanks in advance

The engine is dieing. Check for stored codes. (see FAQs section for instructions how).

Possilbe TPS.

any reason that makes you think that the engine is dieing and at the end of its life? is this a common symptom for engines that will soon require replacement?

Well as you mentioned that the engine has an aftermarket
B.O.V vented outside the engine will get overfueled as
the B.O.V releases the exessive air !!!!
Does your engine have a M.A.F sensor ???:naughty:
The only way to fix this is to recirle the B.O.V air back in the
intake tube by the air filter .
Or what i did is buy a P.C.V valve with 5/16 inch barb fitting
and put this inline with the vacuum line from the intake manifold
it helps a lot a the engine will no longer cut out .

GRT...:crazy2:

It could maybe be your oil pressure is too low?
