loc's automatic to manual conversion!!!!

Im about to start the process but i kinda want to do some more research on top of my other research. I have a couple more questions. could i bolt up the r-154(turbo) trans to the n/a engine? would i have to splice wires and shit or will the automatic wires work for the manual? if someone could explain how to put in the clucth in some easy to understand instructions? How do i take off the drive shaft? Thanks for the help and i will being taking detailed pics and notes and all that good stuff.

You'll need quite a bit to do this. Not just the R154. You'll need the pedals, both brake and clutch, as the brake on the auto is too big. Clutch master cylinder, all the lines and cables, I don't know all of it, but there's a list somewhere. Also the tach won't work without some soldering work.

Here's a link of the tach changes that need to be done. Where I got it from was from this link

He used to have auto to manual, but the link doesn't work anymore.

tachometer, tells you engine RPM, should have one to the left of your speedometer.

ohh ok. can i take one from a manual supra?

You should be able to get the PCB from the manual supra, the board I linked with all the resistors.

youll also need the r154 bellhousing, driveshaft, i think starter motor but im not sure, maybe not, clutch master/slave cylinders, a hydraulic line for the clutch, and a clutch kit with pressure plate. Then im still not sure cause i havent started the conversion yet.

I was woundering if it was possible

I've been woundering if it was possible to do the conversion...
How much $ do you think it will coust to make the swap?

Isphius 09-13-2006 04:45 PM

It depends on if yu get new or used parts, and whatnot, I figured 1200 ish for mine, with used trans and other parts, and a brand new flywheel, clutch kit and aluminum driveshaft

Thanks for the Quick reply

I don't own a supra bit im talking to a guy that has a 1989 nonturbo w/targa top.
It has 249,000 miles on it and there is a few small spots of rust....it's a automatic though and I really want a stick....I had a friend in highschool with a 87 turbo and it was a mean machine...
I'm thinking im gonna have to pay $500 or less for the car....would that be a good deal or not???

tone loc 09-13-2006 08:43 PM

yeah thats a good deal. so far all i bought was the transmission($350.00) at a junk yard.

tone loc 09-15-2006 04:02 AM

before i put it in iwant get it rebuilt and some performance gears. does anyone know any good places to get some gears?

Isphius 09-15-2006 05:26 PM

Your not gona find much in the way of gears. But search google and stuff for r154 syncrhos and bearings and stuffl ike that. All you really need to change out are the synchros, bearings, and the shifter bushings and youll be good. the r154s are very strong.

how many plugs are supposed to be coming off the manual trans. on passenger side i have a 2 wire plug, back of trans i think its one big wire, and driver side i have a 3 wire plug. is that right?? thanks
