Joes BHG thread!

My car smoked yesterday when starting, bad sign. Started using oil and coolant...another bad sign. Then last night, overheated, So i pulled over and left it cool off. Then i drove it home, It seemed fine. I checked the oil, And it smelled like burnt antifreeze....another bad sign. Now im worried lol. So this morning, I go to start it, pumps massive ammounts of coolant out, And its smoking out of the oil, So my final determination, BHG! lol. Which sucks because it has a brand new head. Previous owner reused the stock bolts...which i suspect is the problem. Pictures in a few minutes.

Isphius 09-09-2006 03:17 AM

Thats all i did for today, I didnt think i would get that much off in the 2 hours I had before work. I need to pick up some sockets and extensions and such to get the rest apart. Next is the exhaust and upper intake manifolds. Does anyone have any tips for me so far? and if i may ask...what size are the head bolts? I didnt really look at em much. I had to clean up and leave right after i got the valve covers off.

dcrusupra 09-09-2006 03:51 AM

I believe they are 8mm allen heads. It's either 8 or 10. But im 80% sure its an 8mm. You're gonna have to put some muscle into loosening them also. I'll know for sure on Sunday so if you dont know by then, just wait for my post, lol.

Isphius 09-09-2006 04:16 AM

Ok thanks. Ill have to go buy a socket then because im not doing that with an allen wrench haha.

burton51m 09-09-2006 04:30 AM

im sorry to hear that.

but i know a lot of bolts on the car are 10mm. so you might wanna make sure you have that socket too.

Isphius 09-09-2006 04:50 AM

Yup, I took all that apart with 5 tools, ratchet, pliers, 10 12 mm sockets, and a 4 in 1 screwdriver. lol. Almost all sockets on these cars are 10,12,14, and 17. some bigger stuff for suspension but thats pretty much it. I only have those for sockets, and 15 and 9 because they are common on other shit lol. I need to get an extension and swivel tho, So i can get the intake mani off.

Isphius 09-09-2006 02:11 PM

Does anyone wana donate me a head gasket kit while I cant afford one? lol. I miss my supra already :(

Isphius 09-09-2006 11:21 PM

Got the TB and upper manifold off. There really oily inside and all. Im gona clean em up.

Isphius 09-09-2006 11:24 PM

There is so much oil in there....WTF! Im getting rid of my PCV valve and rebuilding my turbo...all that oil cant be good for the o2 sensor or cat...or power....

Isphius 09-09-2006 11:28 PM

Also, what else needs to be removed to get the head off? I know i need to get the alternator out of the way and the exhaust manifold, But any other odd pipes and stuff i wont be able to see?

dcrusupra 09-10-2006 10:22 PM

Heater hose in the back of the head. And dont be an idiot like me and forget about the fuel rail. I spent almost 2 hours trying to figure out why the head wouldnt come off. I just forgot to unbolt the fuel regulators on the rail.

Isphius 12-09-2006 07:09 PM

Ok its been a long time since i started my BHG repair, But im almost there. Got the head off the car, got the HG, got arp studs, all the tools required, Im just trying to get a good timing belt now. Also got a 3 inch ddp and am fabbing up some steel hardpipes from exhaust tube. lol.

Well, im selling out. Giving my car to a friends dad who is a mechanic, and hes going to charge me to finish it. Someone stole all my fuckin tools. All i have is a few sockets (for stuff other than a supra), one extension, one ratchet, an adjustable wrench, a 10 and 12mm socket, a hammer, and thats it. They took a whole set of long and short metric sockets, my set of ratcheting wrenches, 2 crafstman ratchets (3/8s and 1/2 drive), a plier set, my sawzall, and whatever else i dont even remember i had or is gone, thats just the stuff I know about. Theres at least 300$ in tools missing out of my car. Fuckin great!!

redmaro 12-12-2006 10:51 PM

Sorry about your tools.

jfunez 12-13-2006 04:08 AM

bummer....

marc 12-13-2006 11:17 AM

and that boys and girls is y u dont trust america

rnoswal 12-13-2006 02:21 PM

Well, at least the car didn't blow up like it might have in other foreign countries! I am sure nothing gets stolen in any other country....................right..............

You might as well have the deck resurfaced. If it goes back turbo and you want to use a metal head gasket, it does pay to have that done, but it means pulling the block out too. There are ways to do that yourself, but a lot of time and very hard to get perfectly flat all the way from end to end. I hear the stock Toyota head gasket from the dealer works very well though too. Just make sure to torque it to ARP specs and you really should not have any more problems, unless you really go crazy with boost and/or nitrous.

Keep us up to date!

ya those craftsman tools are expensive!

Isphius 12-15-2006 05:58 AM

yup, about 300$ in stuff missing. Shity part is i cant even remember what else may have been taken out of the car. Heres a picture of all the tools they left me to finish my hg with, how nice of them

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...%202/tools.jpg

thechori 12-15-2006 06:25 AM

i know how you feel....someone got into my car the other day and took some tools, nowhere near as valuable as yours (probably 60$ worth), a flashlight, the gloves that i work on the car with (baseball gloves that were oily as hell), and the damned change that was in the little hole that you push and it pops up.. i was pretty pissed :\

Isphius 12-15-2006 02:38 PM

Yup, I always wonder why people have to streal things. There is nothing in the world worth stealing. If you have to steal it, its not worth owning.

i like how u just set your tools on your paint.
i would never do that

supraman121 12-15-2006 10:10 PM

Hmm u guys ever hear of locking your cars? It that little key hole in the door, I lock my car everywere i go. Except when i didnt have the key for the door when i first bought the car lol but when i would work the night shift i would keep my tools in the car but i would park my car underneath the camera at work so poeple can still stuff out of the car but i will find out who they are lol

thechori 12-15-2006 10:19 PM

lol well, i usually lock my car.. but i have nothing of value in there except my shitty tools, and i thought my neighborhood was trustworthy. i was wrong, and i guess my tools were of some use to some idiot

Isphius 12-15-2006 11:10 PM

Ah, i forgot to mention that. It was broken into. I always keep my cars locked. The passenger lock cylinder is destroyed, they must have just shoved a screw driver or something in there. People will expend so much effort to steal things.

Isphius 12-15-2006 11:13 PM

I dont know why they didnt take the other stuff but the tools. There is a 3 inch DDP, timing belt, ARP studs, and the box with the HG set right on the passenger seat, along with 2 nice shiny glowshift a/f and boost guages. lol. I was about to buy a nice ebay intercooler too but now i need new tools! if i decide to buy them again.

ya i put an alarm on mine. 6 tone 120db(i think) alarm. i think its worth not getting $800worth of stuff stolen, and maybe your car
cuz you never know.
