tsrm lies

i went to change my trans fluid. the tsrm says to put 1.7 qts back in but when i drained the old fluid it measured to be a little over 2 qts. so i put in like 2 1/4 qts in and its still low. i ran out of time so i didnt put anymore ill do it tommorow. I just want to know if im doing something wrong?

Did you check the level with the trans being warmed up and in neutral?

tone loc 08-15-2006 02:24 AM

i checked it while it was warmed up and i have a automatic so i didnt put it in neutral. before i checked i went through all the gears and it still was low.

In park, warmed up with the engine running?

yes thats right

It actually will take about 2 1/2 qts. Not much out is it??? That why the best way is to go get it done by a shop that has a machine to do it.

Or look in the FAQs section for the easy traanny oil change.

how much does it usally cost to get it done at a shop? if its more than $10 no thanks ill do it myself.

supra_91 08-15-2006 10:08 PM

i hate to break it to you but it will cost more than $10

At my shop its $140.
Others charge less, like the big chain shops, Pepboys, etc.

I have been told by more than one customer how it was done "last time" on their car at the quickie lube place.

They stuck a tube down the dip stick hole and sucked out about 2-3 qts, and then topped it up. They paid $80 for that "trans service".

We actually use a machine and a flushing chemical, and it replaces ALL of the fluid with new.

The oil in the torque converter usually hold alot of fluid. More than a gallon I would guess.
