my 1987 non turbo problems
 

a mechanic told me that 87 supra engines often heat up and cause internal damage in the block..he said it was useless to try and get a new (used) engine..i have never had head gasket issues with my car before it broke down..its @ 180000 miles and i wanna replace the engine but i dunno cuz of that guy..so im just lookin for a second opinion from people around here..thank you for your guys' help, i really wanna fix 'er up but im not sure if i should invest more money or get a new car because as of now i am carless..thanks again!

what were the symptoms of the engine when it broke down?

you may be lucky and just get a new head gasket, head bolts, and get the head machined and the block cleaned and you can put her right back together

don't forget to torque the head down to 72ft lbs not 58 like the manual... unless you wanna do another hg ;)

and there's plenty of 7mges/7mgtes around, look in local junkyards or buy from an engine importer :)

There was engine knocking..some guy told me the a connecting rod was broken..but i dunno cuz it never started up after a couple times when i needed to move it..i live in socal so i was driving from school back home, about 35 miles, it broke down about 25 miles in and i was able to get her running but it broke down again about 3 miles down the freeway and i didnt want to damage the engine even more..when it first broke down the coolant was just goin crazy and i ended up havin to fill it up with water from a gas station down the street..i let 'er cool then i started up on the freeway and i started hearing the knocking again and i had to push it off of the freeway offramp..so mainly jus knocking in the engine and coolant expulsion..i think the entire time my temp gauge was at midlevel

ahhh good ol rod knock, who ran it out of oil :p

get a jdm engine replacement and do the hg on it and you should be set :)
