I called a shop here in town called Final Stage Motorsports, they quoted me $850 for a HKS 1.2mm MHG with ARP studs. So if I did it my self the cost for parts would be:
HKS MGH = $100 ARP Studs = $120 Lapping job on head = ~$150 So about ~$370 to do it myself vs the shops $850 Not to mention I've never done anything like this before, but if I pay a shop to do this I don't really learn anything. |

Well if you plan on boosting the car up or keeping it reliable let the shop do it. That way if it goes bad they have to fix it. It is good to learn tho, but depends on if you think you cando it right or not. Its not THAT hard of a job, as long as you know the 7m motor well enough. Just look on the internet for some rebuild sites. And to answer your original question...Yes that is actually a good deal for the labor hours involved. Id go with it. I got a higher quote than that (1100) for all stock toyota gaskets.

MHG means you MUST mill the block too (not just the head).
There is plenty of info on the forum about the MHG install. Bottom line...the surfaces MUST be extremely smooth, or you blow the gasket quick.

who did u get that quote from!? toyota is retarded.. i got about 1100 for the headgasket fixed.. its like, $200 for a stock gasket and 800-900 labour... but like he said.. if the shop doesnt do something right, and he blows the MHG.. shop gets to fix it.

Since I can not really afford to have some one replace my MHG I was just wondering how long it might take me to do it myself. I have never done anything like this before and I figured the best way to learn is to do it on your own.
