About psi

i was woundering if anyone knew approx. how much HP i would raise boosting my car from 8psi stock to 12psi... the car is fully stock and i want it faster atleast 300+ HP

kwnate 07-12-2006 01:28 AM

Intake, 3" exhaust, 3" downpipe and turbo elbow along with a boost controller will put you right around the 300 mark maybe 10 or 15 more. Crank hp, not rwhp.

frostburn 07-12-2006 01:30 AM

k so what u think that would cost me? ... and also... how much hp will i be around with just the 12 psi?

kwnate 07-12-2006 01:43 AM

You need to replace the exhaust, especially the cat on the downpipe. If you don't I will heat up your engine bay more then I'd be comfortable with. Replacing the intake and exhaust will net you 8 or 9 psi without a boost controller. This will put you around 300 crank hp, 12psi on the stock exhaust will probably net you around the same, maybe less. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't chance it if I were you.

How's your headgasket?

Exhaust- $200-$500
Intake- ebay $40, a real one $100-$130
Downpipe w/ elbow $250 -$400
Downpipe w/o elbow $100-$200

$1000 should get you there, manual boost contollers are cheap too. Make sure you get an aftermarket boost gauge so you can moniter your boost level, the stock gauge reads to 8psi and is slow to react.

quick questions...with boost conrollers. can u manually change how much ur car boosts? can u get more than 8psi off of the stock turbo? and how do u install new gauges liek the pillars and stuff where do u run wires from?

marc 07-12-2006 04:53 AM

and if any1 on here has a picture of what there boost controller looks liek on there car..can i please see a picture of it?

IHateHacks 07-12-2006 12:03 PM

The wastegate controls boost on a turbocharged car. There is no boost controller stock.

Like kwnate said, theres no use increasing boost without increasing airflow.

You install an aftermarket boost controller inline with the vacuum line going to the wastegate.

I would install a mechanical boost gauge. 100% accurate and reliable. Electric boost gauges suck.

frostburn 07-12-2006 12:05 PM

whats a good controler to get and whats the price range

IHateHacks 07-12-2006 12:08 PM

Go to jscspeed.com and look. They have competitive pricing.

frostburn 07-12-2006 12:08 PM

funds U.S or CA?

IHateHacks 07-12-2006 12:10 PM

US dollars. Sorry didnt see you're across the border.

frostburn 07-12-2006 12:27 PM

is the HKS Super Mega Flow Air Intake System better then the K&N air intake system? ... is the Greddy Auto Turbo Timer and Harnesses good and also is the Greddy Profec B Spec II Boost Controller and Remote Switch good... lol

IHateHacks 07-12-2006 12:39 PM

In order of you asking, Yes, yes, NO. Go with a manual boost controller.

frostburn 07-12-2006 12:42 PM

ok so... can u tell me what the manual one is called? and price?

IHateHacks 07-12-2006 12:44 PM

Dude can you read? I havent been on that site for a while but allll the way down to the right they have turboXs manual boost controllers with a picture.

IHateHacks 07-12-2006 12:44 PM

Id go with the first one simple, effective, cheap. $75 plus shipping.

Oh snap! Just saw they have free shipping on turboXs boost controllers!

marc 07-13-2006 01:23 AM

wats the difference between a turbo timer and a boost controller?

frostburn 07-13-2006 02:22 AM

boost controler lets you raise boost aka psi, all a turbo timer does it shuts off the car after idleing without a key in the ignition so i can go in ur house or whatever u need to do.

marc 07-14-2006 05:46 AM

ive been looking at a lot of boost controllers today. wats better. electrical or manual. and on a lot of them they have knobs for "lo boost" and "hi boost" WATS WITH THAT? and once uve set ur boost, how do u know how high u r boosting. a new boost guage? and if so, do u have to like take the caxr out and let it boost fully to see?

Isphius 07-15-2006 05:53 AM

You install the boost controller in line with the wastegate actuator vaccum line, run your car, see where it is (this is after you have a good/better boost gauge). Then turn it up or down as desired. It should come with instructions. You can get manual boost controllers for like...15$. Just search for them on froogle.

marc 07-16-2006 02:33 AM

well what is preffered? an electronic boost controller or a manual boost controller?

frostburn 07-16-2006 03:35 AM

manual boost controler

marc 07-16-2006 04:11 AM

and the cheap boost controllers u see on ebay will work? i see manual boost controllers for like 50$ sumtimes. will that actually work?

marc 07-16-2006 04:12 AM

hye..i know this isnt about psi or anything, but do u know the stock timing is on a supra turbo? and what is a good timing to set a stock turbo one to? cause im thinking of adjusting my timing but dont know what to set it too. any opinions?

frostburn 07-16-2006 04:12 AM

they'd better $50 is plenty money

frostburn 07-16-2006 04:13 AM

no clue on that sorry man

Isphius 07-16-2006 09:48 PM

You dont need to pay 50$ for one. The cheap ones work just as well. You dont really need to adjust your timing. The computer does that for you. Even if you do change it, It just makes your car run weird at low rpms, and then the computer changes it to whatever it wants.

frostburn 07-16-2006 09:49 PM

ive seen brand new manual controlers for 15-20$ U.S funds
