These rims
i was looking at a local store, and i was thinking of these for my supra.. im gonna stay with 16's..cuz there lighter and i want to keep my stock tires, and the whole rotating mass idea.. cuz i race people all the time. just thinking, whats ur opinion on these.. there cheap, and i like them. curious how they'd look on a silver supra tho. dont think im gonna get them chrome like this tho. anyone that has photoshop should put these on a pic of a supra :)

looks aight, but i think they'll look better bigger, youll also have a bigger contact patch, with the right set of tires
what do you guys think of these fronts with 18 x 9 rims and the rear having 17 x 10 the tires are diffrent too the front uses lo pro tires and the rear uses something bigger dunt know the exact size but what do you guys think of using diffrent size rims, diffrent for the rear so you can still control air pressure |
just get both rims in 17, if you have 18 fronts and 17s rears your car is going to look pretty retarted. And what are you going to do with 9 inch wide front wheels? 7 or 8 is fine. Get 9s on the back, good for 275-305s
|
sure.. 17's are nice.. if you have money for new tires and for the extra inch.. im only 16. then your spedo is gonna be wrong, and more weight.. and ur ride is going to change.. and handling.. and so on, right? besides, i think the 16's actually look pretty big on the supra, and if you lower it and inch or two, it will look great. is there any disadvantage of having chrome rims? rusting or anything? just wondering cuz ive heard different things.
|
Ugly, especially if you buy 16"ers. Save your money.
|
these were my other choice, just need to find someone locally that can order them in because if i order them from the site im looking at.. shipping will kill me.

lol these are rims that if I ever saw them on a supra, I'd make fun of it.
IF you're going to buy wheels, don't buy the stock size! it's just retarded. if you want 16's, buy some 91-92 5-spokes, or some FD wheels. lighter because you race people all the time? it's not gonna make that much of a difference. get some GOOD wheels that'll compliment the car, not make it look ricey. fn01rc comes to mind. |
teh rims im looking for are a nice 16-17 inch 5 spoke. not chrome. maybe black? i dk theyd match my trim. ive been searching.cant find any i really like. o and btw supra90turbo..i see ur from MA..where abouts in mass r u from?

If you can't do it right don't do it at all. A supra deserves to have a rim with at least a little bit of a lip or if you got the money please get staggered wheels. Imagine how they will look from the back with those wheels on, no lip and some skinny ass tires that won't look so aggresive. You want that supra to look phat when you look at it from the back, like that blue supra up above. Mad props nice lookin supra.

thnx man.. yea if ur ganan get rims..make sure they r good rims

chromes last forever if you take care of it and keep it polished and waxed. And no, your speedometer will not be wrong, Unless you git big ass tires. And generally the tire weighs more than the rim, so the 1 inch bigger will not add weight, it would be less if anything. 2nd, the design of the rim is most likely lighter than the supra wheels. To measure your wheels height, you take the tires size, 205/50 for example. the 50 means its 50% of the width in height. so the tires are 102.5 mm tall. Which is about 4 (25.4mm/inch). So the total height is 4+4+17(25"). The stock tires/wheels are 25.6" tall mathematically. The most accurate way is to just measure them, And apply the percentage as your speedo error. For the given example, it would be 3%. So at 50 actual speed, your speedo would read 51.5. Not much of a difference, which is why most people dont worry about it. |
And as for the handling/ride, Usually a little tighter with an inch up. Which means little less ride quality/little bit tighter car. But if the tires get too short, you actually start to lose a little traction, as with 18s and low low tires. Your tires need to bend a little to stay planted

like i said, im 16.. i dont have THAT much money for rims in the first place, and whats wrong with 16's? i think.. when you go stick 18's on ur car, it looks more ricey.. and a supra is a jap car anyways? sure.. id rather have rims like these.. but im sure there $1500 atleast for all 4's... then i have to spend more on tires.. id love those.. but id love to have the money also.

maybe ill just save up for the ones above ^^^ or something similar. i guess if im gonna do it, do it right. ill likely use stockers for now.. and go up to 17's when i need new tires. i guess i just save for a few months.. i was thinking of getting a new MHG and doing a turbo and getting cheaper rims.. but ill just make a custom intake, cut out my cat, and get exhaust for now.. and ill do that MHG soon.

as for buying stock size rims being "retarded" I will totally dissagree with you on that one. While buying bigger wheels and then lower profile tires may be something you think is the only viable option, alot of people (myself included) actually prefer our cars to remain closer to stock appearance, ride, and specs. I run 225-50/r-16's all arround on my eagle alloys, and I got no problems with that. My tire store includes free rotation, balancing, road hazard and flat repair with their tires, and I rotate regularly, so missmatched sizes would not be an option. Not everyone thinks they have to have a $2000 set of wheels and tires on their Supra's to look nice. Quite honestly I think mine has gone over a line that I dont like, 'cause every Tom, Dick and Harry wants to race me...and I dont race! I build my car to be what I like and want...everybody else can just go play hide and go F**k yourself. |
well said :)

18's look ricey??? Are you on crack?!? Do mine look ricey?

um, 16's do NOT fit the supra. It's just too big of a car.
If i were to upgrade a daily driver, I would put 17x8 or 17x9 all around. The wheels fit the car, make it look good, and you wouldn't stand out to riceboys if you chose the right wheels. stock specs, perhaps, but wheels and tires? no thank you. Those Drag wheels are a nice option. Just because you up the wheel size doesn't automatically mean you have to run super low profile tires... 225/50r16 is just not enough traction for the substantial heft of the supra. 255/40r17 or something like that would be mint. You don't have to buy 205/30r17's like the wheel places sell... you have the freedom to choose your own tires. fwiw: it may not be rice, but to me, it's pointless to go out and spend all kinds of money on wheels, just to buy the same size that came on the car. |
I never stated my opinion of the wheels, I was just saying what and what not will happen. Now for the opinion part..I would say, if you WANT bigger wheels, save a little more for em instead of just getting 16s now. Cause despite some things, Slightly bigger rims and tires arent really that much more. And even if they do look ricey, or whatnot, who cares if you like them.

Oh and weezl, The everyone wanting to race you is just the con of owning a supra. Ive heard so many people brag about beating supras (mustang and honda owners), It just seems like a car everyone wants to race/beat and it makes them feel good...lol. And ive raced a lot of those said people and beat them. And my supra is probably slower or as fast as any they would have "raced", Being a hardtop 5 speed n/a. Ive already beat 2 mustangs, one an older GT(5.0) and a newer v6. And every honda ive ever raced, Except for an older guy in a brand new s2000...But that doesnt count lol. Civics are so overrated. lol. Even the brand new civic si with 197hp isnt really all that fast. I had one trying to pass me on a 2 lane road and he was just keeping up with me, maybe a little faster than my car in a real drag race. :)

I paid less than $350 bucks mounted and they do exactly what I want them to do...hold air...lol! Quote:

yea i think those look good, and... whats another inch? who cares.. does any understand i dont have the money for new tires!? i already want to do enough.. if everyone wants to pitch in to help me get 17's! go right ahead :D and your 18's dont look ricey, but honestly i dont really care for them that much.. and in my opinion i think i could find alot nicer ones for alot less IMO. im meaning.. all you hear is these rice kids are like "man, imma get some 18" rims and some low pro's thurr gonna look dope on my ride yo. then imma get a fart can and a body kit." atleast thats how it seems here... if i owned a domestic car, i wouldnt put "ricey" rims on it... but a supra is a tuner?
|
i thought about getting rims a long time ago but the 5 spokers that i have arent that bad so i decided to stick with em. i like these rims a lot..http://www.ma70.com/danmac/ *edit* the rims on the 87 turbo at that site
