engine concerns - Gashes and Burns

i ddnt do anything stupid this time it was an accident
here's the story

i changed the oil in my car (went fine)
i drove around my neighborhood after the car was warmed up and made sure the engine is getting the oil,
got back to the house
i check under the hood making sure everything is alright
(everything was)

and then whoooosh!!

to anybody that is a fan of the long t-shirt, dont wear it while working on your car

to my suprise my shirt got on the radiator cap
and i got a coolant bath
on the contrary for something they call "coolant" that shit was hot as hell

well i got treated for minor burns, jus 1st and second degree burns nothing serious (thats for anybody who cares)

well dont worry about me tho
i jus wanna know since my engine took a coolant shower too with me, is there any of the electronics that i should look at again , the car started after i dried up most of the spill, but if theres anything else

your opinion is greatly valued

jfunez 06-16-2006 06:42 PM

it shoul be fine, except for the coolant stains and the smell.

Supra2NR 06-16-2006 09:56 PM

yeah i know aobut the coolant smell, i smelled like that for the rest of that day, and even inside the car

theWeezL 06-17-2006 12:36 AM

Post a video or it didnt happen.....

just kidding but I wish I had been there to see it...NOT that I would revel in your misery....

ok, yeah.....yeah I would.

Supra2NR 06-17-2006 08:19 PM

u r jus straight up cold blooded, u know that shit sucks right?

like i said b4 , for something called coolant that shit was hot as hell, it look like geyser for a second when it was swishing out of the radiator

theWeezL 06-18-2006 05:33 AM

ok, I will relate a story that will undoubtedly make you feel better.

A couple years ago my wife and I were living in this little house in Central Oregon. It was this tiny little cottage that had been renovated with all new everything. Anyways, one night I am going to take a shower and I remember that hte faucet on the tub had been dripping for a couple weeks and at about 11:30 at night with my wife sleeping I decide NOW is the time Im gonna fix it.

Well I shut off the water going to the faucet (or so I thought) and start to unscrew the hot and cold fittings. I took the cold off no problem. I am taking the hot off and there is a little dripping, but I figured its just pressure still in the system. WRONG! I get the fitting out to the very last little bit of thread and.........PSSSSSHHHHHHHH!!!!!

It starts shooting water at full force across the tub. I am frantically trying to put the fitting back on, but with the water coming out, I look like a monkey trying to put the coconut back in the dam, and the water is getting hotter! But I figure if I can just hold on a little longer I can get the fitting in place...and I know Im getting burned now, but I keep trying for a few more seconds..

I CANT do it! water is hitting the back of the shower wall so hard its spraying out and now the floor has at least an inch of water on it. I close the shower curtain and go to the hot water heater. Which in this little cottage was put in a corner of the kitchen behind a screwed in cabinet wall, next to a refrigerator. Well after I got the refridgerator out of the way and the cabinet wall off, I find I can barely turn the valve on the heater because now I notice that skin is hanging off my hand! large white flaps of skin are now rubbing off on the valve.

Well, I finally got the valve turned off. I woke my wife up (she slept through the whole thing, and I considered leaving it that way and denying the whole thing...except that I have no idea how to explain my hand). She mopped up the bathroom and I spent the night with my hand in a bowl of icewater. The next morning I went to the hospital, called a plumber, and got drunk.

The moral of my story...if your not qualified to do the service, pony up and pay a professional.

(I know, it has almost nothing to do with the thread...but it was a good story and it was a good lesson)

damdog05 06-18-2006 06:33 AM

that was a nice story. i always love hearing about skin hanging off hands and such.

Supra2NR 06-18-2006 05:16 PM

certainly does make me feel better i was actually smiling while reading the story

but its not as bad as what my dad did

he was using a blowtorch to kill sum insect , dunt know what happend next but, the torch got block , and gasoline started comin from the back of the torch , next i know my dad was running around screaming , he literaly lookd like the human torch since it caught all of his arms chest legs, in a sick was i thought it was hilarious, he used his arms to wave off the flames by the time he was done he also waved off his skin in his chest, how amazing are these time when you can see whats under the skin of a human body. . .

dcrusupra 06-18-2006 05:22 PM

I just had 26 stitches in my leg for 2 weeks. 6 inside stitches and 20 outside stitches Just got them removed on Friday. I got pics of the wound before if anyone wants to see. Quite gruesome. I fell in the "pit" at work. There was supposed to be a metal grate that was over it but it was moved and thats what my leg hit on the way down.

theWeezL 06-18-2006 05:24 PM

heh, and once again I inadvertantly jack a thread...sorry about that!

dcrusupra 06-18-2006 05:46 PM

Lol. The question was already answered. So jack away and i dont mean like that.

burton51m 06-18-2006 07:43 PM

haha...i am going to help jack too sooooo....when i was little i grabbed our riding lawnmower's muffler when it was hot and it burnt the **** out of my hand. all i remember is me crying.

i didnt know any better

jfunez 06-18-2006 09:38 PM

damdog05 06-19-2006 02:07 AM

jfunez 06-20-2006 12:04 AM

haha ...this cracks me up.......!!!!

theWeezL 06-20-2006 12:44 AM

maybe a kindly moderator will see this and change the topic to something like..."engine concerns - gashes and burns"

A couple weeks ago I was working on some wiring stuff and didnt think my cigarette lighter was working...so I pushed it in, waited only a few seconds and then pulled it out. Initially I couldnt feel any heat off it and the element wasnt glowing so I stuck my finger on it..............my brain must have been sound asleep cause it took a good 2-3 seconds before I realized that I was burning the snot out of my finger. When I pulled away and looked at my finger there were white circles burned into my fingertip...I think I actually altered my fingerprint with that move.

Normally my brain is on overdrive, but I guess that day it was taking a vacation...

dcrusupra 06-20-2006 04:21 AM

I did that on the 4th of July. I wanted to light a sparkler and I didn't have a lighter. So my brain said, hey, stove, gets hot, will light sparkler. So I turned the stove on. The coil didn't turn red, and I held the sparkler there for 30 seconds or so. No smoke, no red on the coil. Then my brain said, touch it, maybe its not connected all the way. So I touched it, I had my finger on it for like 5 seconds before I even felt anything. When I did I threw the sparkler across the room hitting my friends mom in the head and I ran around the house screaming and touching anything that was cold. It turned out to be a fun night. It ended with me shooting bottle rockets at an ex girlfriend.

Supra2NR 06-20-2006 05:13 PM

got nother one,

this one time i was putting sum light bars on the door panels, i was splicing the wires and i did not remember that the battery is still connected

do not underestimate 12 volt systems , the hair from my finger to my halfway my arm were all burnt off

i was stuck to that wire for a good 6-7 seconds b4 i actually pulled my hand away

after all that i jus said to myself " so this is what the electric chair kinda feels like"

burton51m 06-20-2006 05:34 PM

i bet we all could go on and on about the stupid stuff we did and it wouldnt end.

once i was riding my dirtbike at dusk on a big field of grass. there was dew on the grass and i had just got done washing it so the side pannels were off and the hotter part of the muffler was exposed. i wanted to get all the water out of it so i rode it down the wet grass field and hit the brakes and somehow layed the bike down on top of my leg. the side that the hot muffler was on was now on my leg under the bike. it burnt the skin off (just the first couple layers) of the inside part of upper leg(quad). it hurt soo much to walk after that.

just a couple months ago i fell riding it on the street going around the corner...muddy tires dont grip the road well is what i found out. i dont know what i was thinking ...in means of going fast around the corner with muddy tires. it ripped through my jeans and screwed up my knee and my hip.

i have pics of my knee all bloody but i dont know if i should post them

theWeezL 06-20-2006 08:54 PM

post a link to it, but not the picture itself, that way those of us sick enough to go look can..

burton51m 06-20-2006 10:35 PM

haha ok here it is...

just to warn people: this is the link to a bloody wound.
http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a8/Burton51m/riding/
enlarge it to get the full effect

it was a deep cut...blood filled most of it up. you can see the road rash on the top and bottom of my knee. the road rash hurt as much as the big cut. it took about more than a month to heal. It took a ton of gauze, prewrap, neosporin and tape to make it heal.

i did have more cuts and scrapes around the body from it but they werent a big deal.

jfunez 06-20-2006 11:09 PM

hey burton...

did you notice that lizzard on the background wall on the second picture "little cut"

is that your bloody pet?

hehe...

Supra2NR 06-22-2006 04:37 AM

oooohh thats gotta hurt, motorcycle accidents are the worst on my opinion, le me see cuz b4 i moved here from the phillippines, the only thing i can ride was a motorcycle, first i had a honda dio it was a small bike but i got the set-up with racing gear intake, and such and such, this type of racing is really big there, so to help me win i took off every part that i can , so basically i drive with jus the speedo, gastank, engine, electrical necessities , and seat, i was speeding in a highway then a taxi cut me off i swerve into a pot hole, bounced up, and when i landed the thing wasnt under me anymore, i landed and broke my ass bone, i couldnt walk for a month

then i got another small bike, 150 cc but i managed to bump it to 500 cc and i used a lpg tank (liquid petroluem gas) as a type of nos for it,

was in a race that i won then, a car came from nowhere, i had to down the bike , i ended up under the car with my leg by the exhuast , this was what 4-5 yrs ago, but the scars from the accident i still have both of my knees got quarter size scars on em thanx to these bikes

dcrusupra 06-22-2006 05:07 AM

Bah, my leg was worse. I'm kinda proud of it. Its just a big scab now.
The gash
Stitched up
Bandaged up

theWeezL 06-22-2006 06:03 AM

Yikes! now that one really made my peepee cringe!

burton51m 06-22-2006 02:35 PM

Supra2NR 06-25-2006 02:35 AM

has anybody got in any bad accidents with thier car?

i was with my boy driving once (he was driving) big mistake, after that i never trusted anybody to drive for me

we were high and drunk(stupid now), but it was the perfect combo back then, we decided to take his dad's gran prix out, we were fine till he wanted to look for a cd , while he was driving, i ddnt even notice or feel that the car was bearing off our lane to the left (cuz of my state of mind), so we jus skimmed off another car, and we ended up hitting the light post, it was a hard hit but the airbag did not deploy, so i hit my head on the dash, he hit his head on the steering wheel, and when we thought it was done, we slowly see the light post falling like a tree to the car, it was so slow thanx to the alcohol and drugs, we jus lookd at it

the things drops, we get out of the car, the car was wrapped around the pole, we ran (yes i know, not like they wont find out that we were there)
i ended up getting lucky that night cuz i had a button up shirt, that i ditchd, he was wearing a jersey, so the cops recognized him on his way home, and he ended up getting arrested that night, i went home, and jus passed out
