code 22

When i came home this weekend i found out that my car wont turn over. i have power and everytihing but when i go to start it- it does nothing. i did a diagnostic check with a paper clip and got code 22 and checked it here http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/librar...fi/FI_026.html .

what do i need to do to fix this.

thanks

Well first things first...

I suspect, though Im not sure, that your 22 code has nothing to do with your car not starting. The 22 code is most likely the sender is bad or even could be as simple as a bad connection at the sender. Check for corrosion first, then if no corrosion I would replace the sender. Worst case, its in the ECU...but cross that bridge only if you come to it.

as for you car not starting...do ya get anything? a Click? if not it could be the solenoid, or possibly the starter relay. there is also a master breaker that might need to be reset. If you get a clicking but no turn over, then the starter motor is probably bad, which I understand is a real pain to change.

Keep us updated

Before this i started my car maybe 5 times the last day i ran it and nothing happened, everything was normal. Come home and try to start it heres what happens-

I turn the key to ACC:
- the head unit/radio gets power
-clock comes on
-door light and sound come on
...everthing seemed normal.

I turn the key to ON:
- i hear some relays 'click' in the engine
-TEMS lights come on
-Engine check light is on
-airbag,parking brake are on and everything is on and working

Turn the key to START:
-nothing, just the radio and clock go out when key is in start position like they normally do. no clicks, no engine turn.

i checked the fuses and everthing in the kickpannel that deal with the ECU and found nothing.

if nobody has any suggestions i will call my local toyota dealership.

i dont see how code 22 (water Temp sensor signal) would have anything do do with it?:dunno: hope it's not the ECU

Starter relay or starter. Try hitting the starter with something. Or sit in the car with the key all the way to the start position and have someone hit the starter for you.

I just re-read and forgot to ask the obvious...is the battery any good? did you try jumping it? A battery can have enough charge to turn on all your accessories, but not turn the car over...its worth a try.

but failing that, I would say solenoid, which is on the starter anyways, so replacing that would be in order.

If its a manual, the nuetral safety switch might be bad. Jump it to a ground and try. Also the factory alarm has a ground that makes the starter not work, so check that.

Security system?

Is it possible that your security system tripped? Go here and check this fix out for that type of problem.

if you're automatic your neutral switch may be a bit sad and doesn't realise you are in a neutral gear

that's if you're auto ;)

fixed

I tried jumping the car...nothing happened. To just be sure i charged the battery all night and came out today and still had nothing. so it wasnt my battery.
Next i tried all the security system steps that f00g00 provided me with-thanks.
i tried it again and the car started. so it think i concluded that my problem was with the security system.

thanks everyone for helping!
