Fluttering idle sound

NOw this is pretty inconsistant, but bugs the hell out of me. When idling it flutters, like put put put, then putputput, then nothing but smoothness. What is this?

Also, is lucas fuel injector cleaner garbage? I was considering buying the gallon size and pouring it all in my tank right before refill.
Ideas? Opinions?
Thanks.

Cleaning the intake and injectors

It works pretty good, but don't put that much in. Use the large bottle (like a pint, 12-16oz) 2-3 tanks in a row.

This will clean the fuel system, valves, and piston tops.

To much at once will cause you driving problems by causing possible misfiring.

You can also clean the intake (and valves and piston tops) by removing a vacuum line off the throttlebody, and while holding the the rpm at 2000, spraying carb cleaner into the vacuum port.

The engine may stumble some, but continue until 1/2 the can is used. Then continue to spray and drop rpm to idle. Engine may/should die. Stop spraying and shut key off.

Remove coil wire from distributor cap and ground it on an N/A model.

Unplug the connectors to the coil packs on the turbo model.

Have a friend crank the motor for a few seconds while you spray the other half of the can into the intake thru the same vacuum port while holding the throttle open full.

This will soak the valves and pistons.

Let it sit 'off' for about 30 min. Hook coils/wires back up. Then fire it up, and blow it out a few times till it idles good.

If it does not idle well, or mifires, you will need to replace, or clean the spark plugs, as one or two may be a bit carboned up now.

thanks for the info man.

I will try that when I get to so cal. I have to drive 500 miles and wanted to clean the fuel system out in the meantime.

wouldn't be a vacuum leak would it

Do you have the stock filter or aftermarket filter and any tubing that might go with it? Could be a vacuum leak like suprra girl suggested though.
