My name is Jeff, I live in Colorado, I'm 18 and I'm interested in buying a supra.

I found one for a reasonable price, $1000. Supossedly it ran fine until he tried to tune it up, but got hung up with stuff and gave up. Again, supposedly all it needs is a new fuel filter and it will start right up, suposedly.

So I looked into it, the fuel filter is on the body somewhere around the Rear Differential according to some old threads I found here.

So, I thought I'd ask some pro supra fans whether I should hop a bus about 200 miles on the assumption I can fix it. I'm pretty sure I can do it, a new fuel filter isn't too expensive. Are there any catches to installing a new fuel filter that would make it more than a couple hour job?

Buy it ONLY on the condition you can take it to a Toy. dealer and have them find out what's REALLY wrong with a Supra that is selling for $1000.

Chances are very high the seller won't want any part ot this--he knows what the outcome will be.

Once you pay for the car YOU'LL be the one fixing it, not the seller.

The fuel filter is not easy to get too especially if you have big hands like yours truly, bring ratchets and cable wrenches. The only thing is it might be siezed into the fuel line, I know mine was when i replaced it, and I had to replace the entire line... good luck I would definetly look into the guy getting it to a dealer ship though. I bought my 89 for almost 4K, very steep, but its in good shape. 1K makes me nervous.

could be a dead or weak fuel pump to. dont want to drive or start to drive and be stuck 200 miles from home

Check and see if you smell gas when you crank it in the engine bay. Then Check to see if it has spark. A lot of times it can be hard to tell if it's a spark or fuel problem.

On my crx, a code was thrown for my problem being fuel related. It ended up being ignition related.

you could put a wire in FP & B+ and turn the key to on and see if you are getting fuel
that would soon tell you if it had the juice to start

otherwise go with the suggestion of having toyota check it out

Hey Suprra girl, how was it that the fuel pump voltage was converted to 12 volts? I remember seeing it in a thread somewhere but can't find it now.

resistor pack on right hand side of engine bay, has 2 pin plug coming out of it, join the two wires on the harness together so that the resistor & plug is just hanging around
