Heater.

My heater isn't working. I can hear the heater mecanism trying to work but the valve must be stuck shut. Where is it located so i can free it up again?

Kai 04-26-2006 08:40 AM

From my own poking around the other day, most of the heater stuff is located behind the glovebox. Just remove the three screws underneath the glovebox and slide out the protective cover, and there is the heater blower motor, the resistor pack (which quite often dies - ?22 from Toyota), and the plenum/airducting.

HTH :)

cheers mate. Was just lookin at the supra TSRM and it had i dodgy picture that sort of looked like behind the glove box but it didin't actually say. I'm off to rip my car to bits(yay). Thanks again..

ddmcse 04-26-2006 08:52 AM

actually the valve is located on the other side of the firewall

SCRAMJET 04-26-2006 08:58 AM

OK, I've found the servo unit that adjusts the heater. It seems to be working as normal. Any ideas on why i have no heat?

Kai 04-26-2006 11:31 AM

Checked that all the hoses run into the heater matrix and arent blocked? Thermostat not opening maybe? Are you getting the 'cappucino machine' sounds behind the dash?

Your control panel may have also bit the dust. They have been known to go bad from time to time. Is it blowing any air at all? Can you hear the fan when you put it on any of the three speeds? There may be a fuse for that stuff too.

If heat comes out of the vents, but only when driving along, then i suggest that it may be the resistor pack. Its mounted inside the ducting, secured by a single screw with a 6-pin plug going to it. Unplug it and take it out. If its dead, then Toyota still sells them, but if only one coil has gone - then you may be able to repair it. If that still doesnt work, i can only surmise that the control panel has indeed died, or has loose/faulty contacts - in which case, i'll be looking for one myself if the resistor pack i just ordered doesnt work! :D

ddmcse 04-26-2006 03:39 PM

there is a valve on the firewall i'll take pictures in a few minutes and post
it's a common problem
once you by-pass the valve you'll have heat

The "low" speed on mine doesn't seem to do anything, what can I do to fix it?

i'm using firefox 1.0.6

could you try adding the L at the end ?

let me know , i'm at work and will have to fix it at home later

it is a common issue though and a google for toyota supra heater vsv should get results

edited : i took off the doc type on the top of the page might work better now

The low speed is the resistor pack someone mentioned earlier, check the valve that DDMCSE talked, the VSV on it is known to go out, constantly! You can check to see if this is the problem by manually opening it with the heater in the car set to hi and with the highest temp. Open the valve manually, if heat comes out, you found your problem.

SCRAMJET 04-30-2006 01:43 AM

I've found the the valve on the firewall. I took it apart and freed up the tap. Not totally free but heater works a bit now. I've had my car 7 years and the heater only has worked for two days of that(about two years ago it just started working for a couple of days). So it works some now. Good enough for me. I'm in Australia so the heater aint that essential anyway..

If it hasn't been working take th hosese off both ends of your heater core, hook a hose up and blow in it with your lungs, it'll clear the rusted junk out of the core. Thats what happens when the heater just sits like that.

Kai 05-07-2006 08:22 AM

*sigh* I replaced the heater resistor pack the other day, and the fan *still* doesnt work. Checked the fuses, all was well, nothing blown, and if the switch is set to 'off' then no aircon or heating comes on at all. If set to any of the other positions, then i get heat/cold air, but only if the car is doing 40/50+ mph :(

Could this be a relay fault, or has the actual blower motor borked on me?

Kai 05-08-2006 10:56 PM

No-one have any ideas? :dunno:

mine neither, but it still blows (barely) when turned off. Also, my air never changes temp (towards hot OR towards cold)

Kai 05-09-2006 02:39 AM

Oh the temperature can be changed, just theres no fan activity at all, under any circumstances. Would the Aircon and heating still work even if the circuit breaker was borked?
