iridium plugs

Toyota dealer tell me they dont recomend iridium plugs for mk3...any one tell me why?

dcrusupra 04-07-2006 09:05 PM

Because they want you to buy plugs from them at a very inflated price....

do those expensive spark plugs actually do anything special. if they do is it worth it to spend the extra money?

dcrusupra 04-07-2006 09:37 PM

The ones from the dealship, no. The iridium plugs, yes. They have a much longer life. Get copper ones if u wont be driving it much. The copper ones have better heat dissipation. But they only last for 3k miles or so.

Yeah, the stealership just once you dough. go to Supra sport and get the high temp or low temp iridiums there, i posted about which are which and why on another post, just search it. Go iridium, well worth it.

Edit:
P.S. Dealerships don't recommend you do anything not stock to your car.

If you really want to test a stealerships theft quality.(make sure you car is tuned and running well) Pretend you dont know a thing about cars and take it so them and say its running wierd and see how much crap they can come up with and how much $$$$ the estimates will come up to.

If you value your car you wont though.. I just had a supra that I am about to purchase inspected at the toyota dealership.

They managed to come up with compression numbers of 180 down as low as 89 and 50, so they were like oho, 7000$ engine rebuild. Sparkplugs swimming in oil etc.

I give the report sheet to the guy selling the car and he nearly breaks into tears since they are telling him his baby is all effed up. Next day he takes it to his car mechanic to fix whatevers wrong with it and they find 3 bolts missing from the coilovers, cross threaded sparkplugs and after a good carbon flush 175 compression across all 6.

The only reason we could come up with was that Toyota was short staffed and has their janitor working on cars.

back on topic tho... yea the iridium does last longer..minimal price difference from the platinum tips as well.
