1991 200k+ miles?

There's a 91 5spd just came on the market not far from me... only problem is it's got around 210k miles. What sorts of problems would I run into soon and how much longer before she goes down.

I mean, what's the average lifespan on these things...

Hrm...

It's large =)

More importantly, it's how the car's been treated, not only the mileage.

That is quite informative. Thanks
Does anyone have a high mileage car they can talk about?

I do as well, my baby is 2000kms shy of 250,000km

So i can expect to get a fair bit of life after the 200k mark?

Shoot, Toyota's can run for well over 400K with the right maintainance.
I had a 4x4 3vze for 6 years, ended up with 230K then I sold it. I jumped the shit out of it, off-roaded every day and ran the rpm's high. Never had any problems with it.
I know these supra's were built with the same kind of intensity.
As long as it doesn't blow out a lot of smoke or have a long running head gasket issue I believe it will go for a while.
Just my opinion, all I've owned are Toyota's and I never will own anything else.

My 1988 N/A has 164,000 miles on the clock and only now has the clutch finally decided to let go - thats 18 years its been in there!

I see no problem with mileage, as long as the car has been looked after. Check the service history. Mine came with every single garage bill from '88 on, and a full dealer history until 2002.

same here 88 turbo 168,000 miles, (or 270,000km) clutch went out. no smoke, no excessive oil use, no knock, turbo makes 8+ lbs boost, idles perfect 2nd owner. only things are shocks, oxygen sensor, brakes, etc... maintance stuff

kewlcoconut 04-17-2006 08:39 AM

honestly, just maintain the car. replacing hoses is vital and should be looked at first. when i got the car, i didnt know much about it, i was an arrogant teen thinking "whoa what a sweet car" and i just drove the crap out of it. i have learned so much from then, and from my experiences. hoses blow first, thats what went on me. replace vacuum lines as well, not expensive stuff. these things will last you another 20yrs. I had a rod knock a few years back because I was stupid and didnt know much on cars, and i had my clutch replaced, so it is good for a long time now. pushing 250,000kms and its awesome

general care is key and you will be fine. i cant see myself having another car, i will have this car as long as i possibly can. toyotas are amazing. my car is 20yrs old and it runs like a dream, and has that aggressive MKIII look to it.
