1jz exhaust

I have a 3" exhaust up until the pipe splits into two near the turbo's. The pipe that branches off into two parts is stock. That pipe has an oxygen sensor on it i think. Is it worth getting an after market pipe?

if so, what is this part of the exhaust called?

I have seen a supra with the extra pipe work and he was boasting over half a second better quarter mile times than me with nothing else different than my car. Could this be why?

Pics would help. But if its what i think it is its the turbo elbow. And if the 1Js stock turbo elbow is anything like the stock 7Ms turbo elbow then it is very restrictive. But that may not be what you're talking about.

You are probably talking about the "Y-pipe" it's the pipe that connects the two turbos to the rest of the exhaust. A lot of people do replace this piece, but if you do, you will probably need to get a Y-pipe/Downpipe combo since the new Y-pipe will not have the same bends and connection point as the factory downpipe. I'm not going to replace mine...I've already got a Tanabe downpipe that mates to the factory Y-pipe.

Yeah, it would be the Y pipe i'm talking about. I'm guessing it is worth changing though. Seems silly to change the rest of the exhaust but leave that one piece stock. Does anyone know where i could sorce one?

ayyyy another west aussie what are the chances? I think i saw ur car in midland a while back, u runnin a 1j? Conversion?

I think there is a set that pops up on Ebay from time to time. People have had mixed success w/ them. Someone on another forum said they've been re-designed and fit better. Other than that, I'm not sure short of having one custom made. I'm sure there are plenty of aftermarket companies in Japan that produce them. As I said...I am probably going to stick w/ my stock y-pipe at least for a while.

Yeah, i live not too far from midland. And yeah, Got the 1jz.

suprra_girl 04-04-2006 11:22 AM

yep they do pop up on ebay a few times and it would be ideal to replace along with the rest of the exhaust :)

or if you have a shop that can make you one custom (altho you might be looking at $$ for that)
