Engine Lag!!!

I recently had an engine put in my 89 turbo and the guy who put it in forgot to plug in the knock censor. would this cause the car to run very crappy and lose a ton of power? let me know if anyone has any idea on how to get my baby back to full power.

well, my knock sensor was messed up for probably about a year before i decided to change it hahaha. and i never noticed a difference in performance. when it was replaced, it seemed like it ran the same. i dont know much about the KS, but it is there to detect, well, engine knocks? is that right?

I think so but not 100%. the engine is a jdm engine with 50k miles on it, but it was sitting in a salvage yard and i don't know if it is clogged or what and nobody seems to be able to tell me. i had the exhaust check and it was fine so i am leaning toward the fuel system. cuz when you step on the gas hard it stutters and takes a while to go. but top speed is still there. just not torque and the giddy up. so if anyone can figure out what the problem maybe i would greatly appreciate it thanks!

The engine was bought from Osakas JDM Engines in Canada.

I had a similar problem with my motor. After the first one blew out because the old radiator cracked and leaked another one was put in. Possible similiar to what you did. A 50K motor from Japan. Anyhow after the motor swap the car never ran quite the same. It bogged and wanted to die like how you described when I would step on the gas initially. Accelerating was a little messy at times...but now it's much better. These are the things I did in the order I did them to improve it. #1 Intake helped a bit. Gave the engine more free air...or whatever it could suck in. #2 Seafoam. I seafoamed the engine out and that helped the most. It's really easy to use and do. Beware a lot of smoke. #3 New cat and new muffler. The old exhaust system was bad. This is my most recent fix and I noticed the throttle response now is a lot better. It doesn't bog and want to die at the intersections or in front of my house anymore.

Thanks for the info i appreciate it i'm gonna have to try the seafoam cuz i already took out the factory airbox and put the adapter in and an air filter.

Thanks again!!!!
