LT1 in a 1987 supra?

I'm a GM tech in georgia and owner of a 87 turbo supra which right now is in need of an engine, so the question arises. I've been having a war in my head about this since I want to keep it real with my supra. on the other hand my buddys at the dealership where I work at keep insisting that i stuff an LT1 in my supra and that sure it'l be a lot of work but the end result will be satisfying..
Im sure I can get a wrecked camaro Z28 or a firebird for about 1500 bucks.
I know it'll be a lot of work but it can be done, the only concern at this moment is,do I have enough room? anyways it sounds very interesting.I,m sure doing a swap for a 2jz or 1jz at the end will cost me around $2500 which will be around the same cost for the LT1 . what do ya guys think?

let me know guys, I cant sleep.......

I'm not sure about the room in a Supra but I know of a local guy who has a Vette engine in his tiny RX7. I bet it is possible but it will take lots of time and effort. Curious to hear more if you go forward with this. I know of another guy who wants to drop a Nissan VQ35 into a older sports car and see if that is possible.

i personally feel you should keep domestic parts with domestics and blah blah... id say keep the supe and replace the motor with a 7mgte and if you dont have a 5sp, put one of them in :naughty:

sbc swaps have been done before. i would do it. since you're a GM tech i can imagine you can get all sorts of performance parts dirt cheap. if you have a boat anchor LT1 lying around just throw it in there and mock it up to check for clearances. and yeah, if you decide to go this route please keep us informed with your progress. thanks.
