race

I have a 1988 na supra and one of my buddys just bought a 2000 acura integra. He seems to think that his car is going to beat mine but i seem to think the oppisit. Is there anyone out there that can give me a good guess at who they think is going to win. Because i cant really race him right now because my car is in the stages of getting rebuilt i have the engine and everything out of it so anyone that know or even has an oppinon on the matter please let me know because i am tired of fighting with him about it

Are you auto or 5speed? What engine does he have and is he auto or 5speed?

mrnickleye 02-18-2006 04:52 AM

Auto, stick, it don't matter. There is a very good probability that he can beat you because you only have 200 HPs and a heavy car.
Power to weight ratio is probably in his favor.

Totally disagree. If he has the base integra with an auto, a 5spd NA would have no problem. Til my previous question is answered its to close to call.

Those times are all over the place... No info on test cars. Way to vauge to compare. Put the car together and go shut him up. If he beats you, then make her faster.

supraboy8809 02-18-2006 02:07 PM

he has a 5 speed

he has a 5 speed and it is a integra ls i checked the website you told me to check and it said that my 0-60 time is 7.9 and my 1/4 miletime is 16 flat it said that his integra ws 0-60 in 7.6 seconds but then his 1/4 mile time was 16 flat also so i guess i a going to have to turbo mine which will make it 15.2 then that will be good enogh i suppose for while i am in highschool

it also depends whether or not the other kid has any performance parts.

i have a na 5spd and it gets going in the lower gears, but on the top end it kinda fizzles out, but thats just mine. the power to weight is in the tegra's hands as long as he's been takin care of his car. i didnt look at the times cause im lazy but i know that the times fluctuate with the driver. i think the best idea would be to hurry up with the motor and throw it back in and roll up to the nearest track or whatever.

I think your idea about outting the engineback in the car and racing him is a good idea but it is justto bad i cant do that due to the fact that i am only 15 and cant drive by myself and my dad will not let me race him on the street i dont think so i gess i will have to wait until i am 16 to go race him and to the guy that asked me if e as any performance mods yes he does but so do i he has a short ram intake and a short shifter he also has a header and is buying a new cat back exhaust system for it but i also am loking at a new hks catback system for my car and i already have a cold air intake systm for it i want to get the obx header and downpipe off of ebay to so with those stats i woder who would win on his cartest computer program it says that i would win by.5 of a second

kwnate 02-18-2006 06:47 PM

You can't base it on a computer. You need to line up, side by side and do it. AT A TRACK. You don't want to kill innocent people being stupid on the street.

Race results pending a race. END OF THREAD!

im only 18...

well it sounds like with the parts you're getting you might have the upper hand. there really isnt any way to tell untill you race.

When you turn 16, go to a local drag racing track and practice takeoffs and fast shifting. Knowing when to shift is very important and that takes practice. Another thing is to put premium gas in the car, put some octane booster in the gas and advance the ignition timing until it pings under hard acceleration and then back it off some. The knock sensor might do that on its own, but the timing will help alot.

Another thing you could do is to retard the cam gears a few degrees, 5 is a good starting place. That will give you more top end, but the lower end will suffer some. Just replacing the mufflers with good freeflowing items will give you more horsepower too.

Make sure your tires are in good shape and DON'T remove the powersteering belt. It doesn't cause any drag while going straight. Take the spare out and any other stuff you don't need that weighs extra. Take out the air cleaner just for that race too, unless you are on a very dusty road, but that again will help a bit.

Practice your shifts and don't get stupid. Make sure you have good brakes too. You will have to stop at the end. Don't just rev it up to the red line and shift, by then your power will have fallen off and your times will suffer and don't carry a passenger!

Have fun but be smart, think it through and if it doesn't feel right yet, then wait a while.

the auto supras supposed to be just slightly quicker than the manual over a 1/4 ...

*trying really hard not to support the honda*

Heh.

I used to own a 93 LS with stock 140hp engine. I had an aftermarket intake (rather cheap) and it was 5spd, I managed a 15.7 at the track.. not bad, engine had 110k miles. That was my very first car. I really enjoyed that one :P

My Supra is my 5th car, and I hate it, coz it's AUTO. I need to swap that tranny asap... and the engine too, it's n/a.. :( ... /me cries. =) Heh. But hopefully I'll turn it into a very fun and good looking car. I'm nearly done with the looks! :)
