Hey everyone I have a 1991 Supra Turbo . I added a K&N air filter, 3in downpipe ,Greddy Type S BOV ,manual boost controller and fuel cut defender. I turned the boost up to 12 . I took it out ran it a couple of times seemed to do fine . Then I had it at about 50 mph planted my foot it boosted to 12 then cut out. I looked down and the rpm gauge bounced a couple of times below 1000 rpm then nothing. It wont start .When I tried to start it it would sound like it wanted to start but would not. I checked compression on all cylinders and they are around 125 psi. Then I checked the fuel pump it was fine. So know Im stumped. I read it had a cam position sensor. I dont think the timing belt slipped . I checked the belt and it looked good. And I dont know if the sensor would shut down the motor . I also pulled a plug and it had no spark when I turned the car over and the plugs are new .Any helpful suggestions ? Thanks

about how long have you installed the new stuff? if not too long it might be defective. also take it on the dyno run and see if it happens. ( if it starts that is.) :)
|
Not to long it was the first time with everything in place. I drove it about 10 ml before it cut off.

Supraman: it could be that you blew off intercooler piping, you installed a fcd you say? did you install it correctly, did the engine check light come on when it all of a sudden cut, what sort of fcd did you buy? how many wires are there on it? also if your compression is only 125 you need a rebuild, the minimum in the manual is 128... the bov you bought does it vent to atmosphere? i wouldn't think your timing has altered.... check this link to verify your cps timing.. www.supra.co.nz/timing.htm do a diagnostic.... http://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/index....ct=ST&f=2&t=333 let us know how you get on :) |
I put on a HKS fcd it had six wires I believe . I checked them several times before I buttoned every thing up . I checked the the intercooler lines and they all looked good. And to be truthful I was so in shock that I didnt even look for an idiot light .Now I dont have spark could it be my coils went out or maybe the cam position sensor. Thanks
|
And yes the bov does vent to air. And the compression I figured might be a little low. I was supposed to do it with the motor warm. But of course I had to do it a couple of weeks later. So there probably wasnt much oil on the rings. Also its an automatic.

do a diagnostic on your car and lemme know what codes you get... go and check your fcd and double check the amount and colour of wires you have and what they go to
diagnostics is in the faq section :) |
Ok the fcd has five wires red goes to power, black of course ground ,yellow goes to ecu for air flow signal, the white wire goes on the wire running from the ecu and the green wire that runs to the rpm source .Also I would do a diagnostic , but my manual does not show which is which on those connections except for the test of the fuel pump. And if the cover had the markings it long gone. So if you can direct me it would be a great help. :D
|
ok mint fcd is installed correctly... :)
www.supra.co.nz/timing.htm on there you will see the diagnostic box and the arrows on it are T & E1 check in the faqs for diagnostics :) |
Well I did the diagnostic and all it did was flash continually.
|
well flashing continuously means no codes are stored, has your battery been flat or disconnected in the meantime?
what happens when you try to start it, does it crank, does it start and die? what does it do |
Yes I did disconnect the battery To work on it . All it does is crank over I pulled a plug to see if there was any spark but there was none .It doesnt even start and die. I wish it did.
|
Also I checked the coils with an ohm meter and it showed .06 . The guy at the store said it sounded like the ignition module. What do you think?
|
well this may sound obvious but just in case lol
are your coils plugged in? check your AM fuses in the engine bay fusebox are they blown? try swapping your ignitor and see what happens |
The coils are plugged in. I checked the fuses. And this may sound stupid but what is an ignitor.
|
Is the ignitor the same thing as the ignition module. And if it is do you know were I can get one cheap. Used or otherwise.
|
try http://www.supraforums.com in the for sale section, someone might have one in there :)
|
have you checked the distributer rotor and cap?
|
dammit i keep forgetting that supraforums can't register any new members at the moment :(
i would replace your ignition module (ignitor) and see how you get on... your local junkyard should have one, just ring around and see if you get one 87supraguy... good guess but this model supra doesn't use a rotor and cap as such... it uses a cam position sensor which at the end of the day does the same thing just more electronically fancy lol but you did remind me of one thing to check with that.... Supraman... have a look at the plug on your cps... look at the wires... if they look dodgy or anything i would rewire the plug... the cps has been known to cause strange problems in the past :) good luck |
