New Supra Owner
 

Hi, I just bought my first Supra. It's a 89 non turbo. I haven't even picked it up from the lot yet, I'll be doing that tomorrow. Anyway, I'm planning on doing the 7M-GTE engine swap sometime down the road and wanted to know what performance upgrades can I get for now with my current 7M-GE. I want to plan ahead for the turbo, but I'd like to do some mods while I wait for the financial backing to go for the turbo engine.

Even when I buy the engine, I want to keep it in a garage and work on the internals, etc. while it's still out of a car and then just put everything together.

Any advice would be great.

Man, that sounds like me when I bought my MKIII. It was in New Hampshire, 100 or so miles away from me. Had to return the next day to the lot to get it. Was I thrilled then! So that is where you are at, basically.

By the way, where are you located?

Do it right the first time.
 

I would get the turbo mtr and build it in the garage while I drive the car. Then do the swap when its ready to drop in.
Cheap enough for now, on the n/a would be a K&N cone filter. You can get an adaptor for the AFM off ebay.
A cat-back exhaust will get you some power.

Do all the maintenance and other upgrades stuff over the next couple months. Brakes, cooling system, all the stuff fixed that needs repair, stereo, tinting, etc.

Do your research for things you'll want, like gauges, tires, performance brakes, LSD diff, clutch, etc. $$$$

I just got a 1989 yesterday fully stock although it has the exhaust and its dropped my guess is the car is dead but I am willing to put $ time and effort in it any one can tell me what to begin with? Appreciated...
