Timing belt rubbing against lower front cover

I have a 7mgte and it just started making a slight noise from the engine so i took off the timing cover and the belt is starting to rub on the lower metal part of the cover just wondering if this has happend to anybody else or if anybody has any ideas?????

my lower timing gear had the retaining flange snap off and that then let the belt slip forward and start to shred on the cover....

Thanx, Where you able to fix it yourself or did you just take it to a shop? i had one shop quote me at $380.00 was wondering if that sounded reasonable or not.

Reasonable ??

Here at my shop it would cost $50 for the belt (Gates brand), $260 labor, and if the tensioner bearing was bad, about $40. Our rate is $65 hr.

If you've done a water pump, or sparkplug change, you can handle the timing belt job.

yes, i did it myself, getting the crankbolt loose was the hard part. (starter bump trick) and i had to buy a new lower timing pulley from the dealer.
