Engine still wont start 87 supra 7mge

OK i put a new engine in my car. Its all in i got the last parts last night n was up all night trin to get it to start but it fires for like 2 seconds and shuts off... just wont stay running any ideas? i tried almost everything witht the timming

Engines need 3 things to start. Compression, fuel, and spark. Time to start process of elimination. If you have all 3 your timing may be off or something may be wrong with a sensor or the ECU.

check the Mass Air Flow sensor, if its not working right the car will start then die right away because its wating for a signal from the sensor. I had mine off once and it was doing it, i didnt understand why it would die but thats the whole reason for the sensor.

Good Luck

Have you checked for any codes?
If you have not, this may be of help:

If you have, did you get any codes?

Did it run with the old engine? It does sound like the airflow meter. The cold start injector is getting it started but then no signal to the rest of the injectors to keep it going. Try to make sure there are no big air leaks anywhere.

mass air flow senser is makin a funny noise like a little tin clunk every once in a while....

lethalwithasupra 01-03-2006 10:42 AM

fuel ? supras switch the fuel pump on with the starter, maybe it isnt keeping on. it'd run untill the rail ran out of juice

what would cause the injectors not to work at all?

stumpjumper 01-12-2006 06:20 PM

THis happened to me after I put my head back on. Apparently, the distributor appeared as if it was on right, but it was installed one groove in the wrong direction. I smelled a heavy burned electric smell cuz the spark was having to jump huge gaps inside the distributor. If none of the other ideas work, I would try to make sure the distributor was installed 100% correctly.
