Dual exhaust, anyone?

Hey guys.

I left the center piece of my new tail lights (JDM, where the center piece is not light red, it's dark red as the side ones) on the paint shop today, so they paint the lower part of it. After installing this, I reckon there'll be less things to do to my automatic N/A (which still has a long way to go, engine and tranny wise, for example).. I already hooked up some 18"s, but need to lower it. I'll take pics of it later this week, after I install the tail lights. My sister's husband says he likes it tall, it looks like a monster truck, LOL.

Anyways, yesterday I saw a Civic with dual exhaus tips, and I said to myself "blah, what a waste... crappy car with those exhaust tips, as if it were a REAL car!"... And then I got to thinking that the other "real cars" I've had (Z32, RX-7) both had dual exhaust. Now, the Z had independant ones all from the engine.. but the RX-7 had a single pipe coming out of the engine, and about 3-4 feet from the tips, it divided in two, so it had two tips.

This looks quite agressive IMO... As my exhaust will be custom made (as there is no way in hell I'm paying 500-900 bucks for an exhaust system, I'm on a budget), I was thinking of telling the guy who'd weld the pipes, to do a "Y" section like the RX-7 had, so I'd have two exhaust tips.. one where it usually is, and the other one symetrically placed on the right side. I assume some people have done this, but I've never seen pics of an MKIII with this.

What do you guys think??

ugly...ive seen some ricer with an mk3 by my friends house up by bergenfield thats got a dual exhaust...so uglyy..it doesnt fit it really doesnt...haha im not gonna talk to u anymore if you get a dual plus u gotta spend more money for two mufflers and extra piping...go hook your motor up man

i agree, it would be pointless and just wrong.. but each to his own. put a v6 or v8 in it, then i could see going duel, but there is no reason for it other than trying to look like a v6 or v8? just my opinion...

Heh!

Yes, I will work on the engine!!

Yesterday I floored it while going off the carwash, and it moved nicely, reminded me of some of my other cars.. except that after sliding, the acceleration was poor =P

Ok, ok, dual exhaust sucks then.. will stick to one muffler only then. (I was thinking of doing the complete 3" exhaust, not just the muffler, btw). Which brings up another question: will the exhaust pipings work for the 7M-GE as well as for the 7M-GTE? I mean, I wanna do he exhaust now, with my N/A engine.. can I then use the same exhaust if I swap engines to a Turbo one? ..

you would have to change the downpipe i would think? to fit the turbo when you install it... but i am not familiar with n/a supra exhaust system.. i know n/a's need some backpressure to run properly? for turbo cars, the turbo is the back pressure..

Hrm...

I'm still thinking of making it manual and add some 50 HP somehow and forget about the turbo, heh... it should make some good slidings with that HP.. maybe not good 1/4 mile runs, but I don't care. It should also be a pleasure on the highway I bet. Oh well, I'll take my time to think about it. It's all about the budget... =P Car is looking great, I "shined" it yesterday... looks nice. Expect the pics soon, with the JDM tail lights. (Although I still believe the rear of the car will not look as good as I want, not with that small factory muffler, need something bigger, something that goes more with the car...)

the na has more of a header designed manifold/downpipe so you could go ahead and make a cat back and use the dp already on there. if/once you got 7mgte you can swap out the dps and use the catback you just made

Check out the "exhaust systems researched' thread in the FAQs section.

Don't get way ahead of yourself, baby steps.

Dual exhaust dosen't suck, it only sucks when it's done for cosmetic reasons.

SupraMan1784 12-21-2005 03:05 PM

i would have to agree with bullz_eye...but still if the car doesnt come dual exhaust...dont put dual exhaust haha, and yea joel the n/a's need a little backpressure, but once he puts the turbo in if at any time he does, then hes gotta change out the setup for a turbo dp to fit teh turbo in there
