Considering a Supra

Before I say anything I know that this is a very newb question but i would like to get some feed back
Right now a uncle of mine has a 1989 (i think their called mkIII?) turbo supra which he bought from a car auction crazy cheap and hes not sure it runs right but it almost cranked when he tried to and im sure I can get it for cheap from him.
Well my question is how fast are these cars stock(its an auto) and does the auto tranny hold back supras as much as some other cars like my 420A eclipse...also is the boost turned down in stock form like the 4G63T eclipses (im sorry im a DSM guy)...i would appreciate any feedback as to whether i should get this car or not because im sure i can grab it for about $500...also lets say the engine or tranny is messed up is it still worth $500r

If the body and interior are straight then its worth $500. How many miles on it? Any more info? Stock MT vs AT the AT wins off the line, but can be caught :)

no i dont know the mileage or exact conditions of it but im going to go look at it tomorrow and see whats up with it

I tell you what if you can get a turbo car for $500 it is a no brainer. I have been looking for a wrecked turbo/ parts car for about a year. I want one for a ge-te swap so I can have a engine to build with all the plumbing, cpu and harness. If it looks like to much work you can sell it or part it out at a nice profit. If it looks good and you decide to keep it welcome to the club.Best of luck!!!

thanks for the replies and it looks like i'll probably buy it even if it doesnt run....I'm mostly a DSM guy but I know the potential of these cars and for that price if I were to get it to run it would be so sweet

The interior and plastics are almost more expensive than engine parts if the its the 7MGTE engine. Its worth it if the body and interior are straight. they make about 180RWHP stock but i've seen as much around 600 with mods and tunning. You can get it to make 300 easy and reliably.

If I had the opportunity to get a turbo Mk III for $500, I would jump on it. Right now I have a 1986.5 NA and although I love it, I wish I had a turbo one...

yea i feel the same way, if i had the chance to get a turbo for that cheap, i would totally get it. i would probably still buy it and park it, and just upgrade everything in it while i drive my 86.5 NA
