able to fix or replace

can this be fixed? or ebay me a new turbo ? my blades look like this http://www.gtfours.co.uk/pics/turbo/...oken_turbo.jpg

SupraMan1784 11-14-2005 02:37 PM

it can be fixed..u can just get the turbo rebuilt, maybe with bigger blades for a little more compression, of you can just buy another one

I get lost in turbo terms because of series. I see 60, T, hybrid what do i choose, What will bolt up, or what modifcations will i need? I might be the only one who dosent know but hey im learning :)

joel w 11-15-2005 07:02 AM

they will need to rebuild your old turbo or steal parts from it.. i dont think anything they have on the shelf will bolt up.. unless you change manifolds...

SupraMan1784 11-15-2005 01:27 PM

my friend used turbochargers.com to rebuild an s15 turbo for his sr...they did a pretty nice job, he requested larger compressor blades to get a little bit more boost, all he basically did was package it and send it out...they used teh same housing but changed the internals

how do the blades get chewed up like that? did you not run with an air filter and a rock get in there? My turbo has 170K miles on it and the blades look brand new except a little dirty...

SupraMan1784 11-16-2005 01:38 PM

yea most likely something got in there, wear and tear doesnt damage the blades like that..

1988gte 11-16-2005 08:42 PM

i have no idea it was like that when i got the car. I thought maybe to hot or rocks also. found this (look at bottom of page second from last) but dont see how that would cause the problem

SupraMan1784 11-16-2005 09:18 PM

hmm...he says failed bearings...could be as the damage to the blades is towards the outer part, its either that or something got into it...i think it would be more of the failed bearings cause ive seen turbos at full speed with a tiny ass pebble slip through and cause an ugly mess, so looking at that picture i would agree and say one of the bearings screwed up
