Replacing a 7MGE with 7MGTE

Hello, I have an 87' MK3 with stock 7MGE. I am looking to purchase a 7MGTE for replacement. I am wondering if anyone knows what all this job entails, will I need to modify any wiring harnesses, what needs to be done with the computer, etc.. Thank you very much for any assistence!

So as for the swap, i do know that there are a couple of things you will have to do. Some being a 7mgte ecu, r154 trans, maybe the driveshaft as well, an intercooler system; cause you are going turbo now, maybe fuel pump cause the 7mgte will need a more efficient way of obtaining fuel, and I'm sure there's a lot more.
Hope this helps!

Thank you for all this information, I have a question though. I have the stock 4-speed automatic, will it be necessary for me to replace this with the r154? This is actually my biggest concern. The engine im buying has the intercooler with it.

Also, the cc is the same for both engines, but will the 7GMTE require different mounts? Or will it essentially drop right in the old space. Also, would it be to my advantage to look into a better radiator? It is original stock as well.

I believe you will need the r154 because the 7mgte will be dishing out more power and torque, which is where the r154 will come into play, and if it's a manual trans then that extra 5th gear would be good to have. And to my knowledge it should be an easy drop right in, haven't heard that you have to modify the mounts of any sort. And anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.
But again hope this helps!

The A143E should be fine. There was a beefier version but I think that may have more to do with the year than the engine trim. The 7M-GTE also has an oil cooler and recommend you don't try to go without it. A fair amount of the things you're going to need to look out for will depend on the year of your car and the year of the engine and ecu/wire harness. The pre89 models used the same mounts and the 89+'s different mounts.

if you have a w58 (5 speed) it will work fine, it is used on 1j and 2j non turbo engines through the years. i believe the 7mgte uses a different clutch than the non turbo.
