Chattering Noise

Hey Guys !
I have a chattering noise from my front suspension (88 supra auto....) Bushings are brand new, Ball Joints were good, Stabilizer Bar Bushing - good as well.....Any other ideas what that could be... ? Thank you !

Hard to diagnose noises through just a description unfortunately, much easier to hear the sound in person but if it's just happening over bumps as suggested by your checking of ball joints/bushes etc perhaps you could check (listed in my personal order of most suspicion, ymmv) the anti roll bar's drop links for play, strut top mounts, steering joints, rack bushes, perhaps the brake pad anti-rattle shims, wheel bearings, wheel bolts and lastly, if all else fails, check that there's nothing else loose on the car that could be sounding like it's coming from the suspension but really isn't...

Wish I could be more specific, but that's the nature of the beast with distance diagnosis of noises I'm afraid. :dunno: With any luck someone'll be nearby and be able to have a listen for you maybe?

interested! 05-23-2013 04:17 PM

Chattering noise

Hi! , May be a good idea to check the steering rack rubbers for hardness and movement as well .

That's what I meant by rack bushes! :D Mine went bad after the power steering leaked & allowed the rack to move a good inch side to side, was quite scary under braking or trying to hold a line on rough roads!

Thanks guys!
I'll check my rack bushings this weekend.... but my steering is sharp and working just fine.

The noise I have is quite random and I have it when I'm driving on obsoletely flat road.... it also sounds like a random drum noise.... :dunno:
