Default Newbie needs some 7m-gte engine help please

I recently got my hands on a '92 Supra N/A with a 7m-gte swap and a bunch of parts in boxes...my question is, how do I find out what year my engine is? Like where do I look for the casting numbers? Any help is very appreciated and thank you in advance.

There is no way to determine the year. The best you can do is check to see which generation it is by looking at the engine harness/ECU connectors. If they're yellow it's pre89, if grey 89 or later, if it's mixed then it's very early 89.

I suppose you could check the manufacture date codes on some of the parts if you really wanted to (cam position sensor cover, coils & cover, cambelt cover etc), might not be all original parts but if you check a few and get some that tally you could get a fair idea of when it was built?

Not even Toyota can identify the YOM from the engine number. I did read a post some years ago about the block external casting design changing throughout the years. Something to do with the webbing pattern on the outside.
