coolant dripping from vent tube
 
hey guys, im new to the forum i own an 89 turbo targa and recently i fairley decent amout of coolant loss....checked hoses near back of head all is ok there. but there is a vent tube behind the down pipe that is leaking coolant from it....im thinking heater core but my heater functions normally...i have ordered a new heater core but being as it is easter weekend im screwed till tuesday haha...just wondering if anyone has any ideas if it could be somthing else

I'm not quite sure where you think the leak is. Pressure testing the system is probably your best bet though. There are a number of common spots which leak against the firewall. You've probably thought of most of them, two possibilities which aren't uncommon but often aren't thought of initially are the banjo behind the spark plug galley and the rear most coolant jacket in the head gasket.

Easter? You need to find a Jewish, Buddhist or atheist auto parts store. ;) Actually, it may be worth calling around though. Many of the parts stores around me are still open for half the day.

Finding a heater core is probably the least of your worries. Its a major undertaking to put one in.

There is no coolant vent tube in that location, the only vent tube is the expansion tank vent tube at the very front of the engine bay. If the heater core is leaking, the carpet behind the centre consul normally becomes wet.

I believe he is talking about the a/c drip tube that come through the fire wall. I cant picture weather or not coolant could leak from it. I should know since i have taken apart 5 mk3 dashes.
