finally started

About a year ago I was building a parts list, with the help of you guys, to build my 87 supra. I recently returned from my deployment and have started slowly working to it, pictures will be uploaded later today, hopefully, they are all from my phone so far. I have the doors, front bumper and fenders removed thus far. Any common problem areas to look for are more than welcome, biggest thing have been looking for is rust and have seen none thus far except front bumper bolts., I'm off work till the 9th of september and plan on getting alot done, any help along the way on here is more than welcome!

Apologies for the lack of posts during deployment, internet was slow at best, nearly impossible to get on here regularly to try to help/comment on anything.

edit:title should be finally started, and doors came off for ease of removing interior, have new carpet for it

here are a few pix of the teardown so far, no rust seen, but haven't gotten in the back yet.

Please tell me you are painting your interior! lol. I bought an 88 supra a while ago and it was maroon with the maroon interior as well. I have the engine out right now as well as the interior. Got the outside painted a dark grey and black. Im going to paint all my interior black and get new black carpet. haha. Are you doing all this yourself?

87supra7mgte 08-29-2012 05:52 PM

Yes, I am redoing the interior to a black/red combo I think. Not doing the maroon though, am keeping car white most likely but not sure what to do with interior quite yet, except the black carpet obviously.

I'm going to be doing as much of this as I can myself. I don't have the tools/experience/knowledge to do some of it(the machining of the block and head mostly), but doing everything I can myself.

got radiator removed and am wondering what these are before i start cracking line, big one is right behind radiator, smaller one is on driver side of where IC goes, one must be the a/c condener but not sure on other one, any help?

Big one: A/C Condenser Cooler.
Small one: Engine oil cooler.
Auto’s also have a small cooler for transmission fluid of the same size as the engine oil cooler in about the same position.

Almost have the engine/trans out, how do I remove the line going from the side of the oil filter bracket to the engine oil cooler? Wasn't able to find it in my Haynes manual. Thanks for the help!

Your profile states “manual transmission “ but your question sounds as if you have an auto box ?

pic of line, it comes off where the oil filter is located, would be under the exhaust manifold. I can try to get a better picture if needed, using my phone and having to resize them, though so don't know how good the quality will be.

This is from my engine with an auto box, the red arrow indicates the engine oil return from the cooler, the photo was used to answer another members question, hence the red arrow. Does this help?
