Default 2jz-gte swap

Hey guys,

I heard the later model mkIII's have the same engine mounts for a 2jz-gte. Is this true? and has anybody done this swap?

I would imagine there would be alot of electrical work that would need to be done and new ecm? How would the wiring work?

I ask because I actually prefer the look of the mkIII's to the mkIV's and ive been looking for an mkIII with a bad motor so i wont spend much on it seeing that i will just swap it out anyway.

Last question. Would i be able to build a 7mgte, with 500-600 hp to the wheels, that would be as reliable as a 2jz with the same amount of power. I know there will be more headaches with the 2jz swap but it wont be my daily driver so time is not an issue.

Thanks for any help!

imo you can build the 7m gte to your goal easily enough just as a 2jz. in the long run i belive it would be cheaper if you already have a 7m motor lyeing around instead of going and buying a 2j then having to build it up. in the reliability deparment i belive toyota has never made a bad (unreliabl motor) so i belive if you where to build your 7m correctly not in a rush and whith the right knoladge it shouldent give you any problems(if you beat it to hell and dont maintenece it thats on you, even toyota cant do everything)

from what i have read i belive 89 and up had the motor mounts made for the 1jz whith will luckily bolt a 2j perfictly, like my 87 wont line up or even work, for electronics if your swaping a newly rebuilt motor you should have the factory wireing harness whith you.

you got my 2 cents but im no expert i would think it would be cheaper to build your 7m since you would already have it vs trying to find a not abused 2j and fiddleing whith swap and build when whith your 7m its just build
