spacer between 7MGE & W-58?
So i took a 7MGE donated graciously by a Cressida, and freshened it up, now swapping it into my 87 supra NA manual trans. I'm putting it all back together, getting ready to drop the trans and engine back into the supra. But in swapping over the parts, I see a thin "spacer" sitting on the back of the motor, The holes line up and it rides between the engine and the flywheel. I don't think it came off the original motor, but I can't say for sure. it could have been there and swapped over by a helping hand. I suspect it is left over from the credssida - and may have something to do with an automatic trans? but I have no idea.
I looked at the TSM, and can't see it in the clutch section, so thats reasuring - or maybe not! maybe I am missing something. The only think I can see it might do is shim out the flywheel a bit so the starter gears engage better? Or it could have not been in the supra with the 7MGE and w-58 to begin with. I don't want to leave it out, get it al back together, then find out i needed the spacer. Anyone know if there is this spacer plate in manual trans supras between the tranny and motor? |
There is no spacer in the N/A MKIII. Looks like the last year Cressida may have used a different bell housing. I'd look into that. How thick is the shim?

After i thought about it, I'm pretty sure i saw the piece before i pulled the flywheel off the original, so it would not have been on the supra thanks for all your help! |
Yeah, I think that's only on N/A 7M's. IIRC, it goes on the crank before the flexplate

I think he's talking about 32116 in the following link (on my phone, too much work to embed a pic lol)

And I just reread this thread, the piece I linked to is only on AUTOMATICS, not manuals. So that part is not used on your Supra, Carl

Thanks Cre and Brian,
Cre had it right from the beginning, Brian you are exactly right, i was refering to 32116. So as you guys have shown, it was a piece left over from the automatic in the cressida. Thata a relief, now i won't have to worry about it! thanks for your knowledge and esspecially the effort of both of you on this! Carl |
