Rear Main - W58 drop

Okay so my rear mains leaking pretty good, gotta do it. I have a 86.5 NA manual, can I just drop the tranny off the motor from underneath? I'd really rather not pull the whole motor if I don't have too..

You can but unless you have access to a lift and 10 feet of wobble socket extensions it's not really any easier... Not in my opinion.

Well I know it's gonna be a bitch as it is, but Im wondering can it be done? Someone has to have some tricks with doing it lol

Tricks.... Yup, a lift and about 10 extensions to reach the upper bell housing bolts. If I remember correctly, you'll need to loosen the motor mounts too and a transmission jack... Oh, and as always, drain it first. ;) Getting it back in, with everything lined up and properly torqued is the best part.

I'm not really kidding about this. Without a lift it's utterly miserable.... with a lift it's well, only a little better.

Here's Toyota's instructions on it. Read through it thoroughly before you start.
