What kind of motor do I have??
I just bought my first car and it is a 1986 supra. I have no idea what kind of motor it is? I know It's a 3.0 liter and it says duel cam and 3000, but other than that i don't know the specific motor that is in it.

it could be the mk3's 7mgte( if turbo) a 7mge( n/a verson) or a 5mge from a mk2 i know the supras history from 87 up im kinda scetchy about 86 and 85

The first 86 supras were mk2s and had a 5mge 2.8L. Then at 86-1/2 came the mk3 supras with a 3.0l 7mge. The 7mgte don't come intill 87. Also the 7mgte does not said 3000 dual cams 24 valve on the valve covers like the 7mge.

Let's not forget the 6M-GE. The first 3 liter M series engine. Not natively sold in the US but people have brought them over for swaps.
|
What did the 6m come in. My 7m has the 6m crank in it.
|
The 6M came in a couple different cars but none which came to the US with it. It was the last engine in the MKII lineage. The 6M crank is lighter and allows for a higher red line than the 7M crank. The 7M crank is heavier and better balanced but comes with the penalty of a 250 RPM reduction in red line. The 7M crank started making its way into the 7M engine around '88 but through '89 (possibly '90) it was possible to end up with either one in your 7M. The first telltale sign was the red line as indicated by the red mark on the tachometer face. Naturally, you can't rely on that so much these days though as the gauge could have been swapped anytime in the past.

My first 86.5 had a 2 ltr engine :p actually just a bit under but was a 300 plate ;)
