Default inter cooler upgrade

im looking to upgrade my crapy factory intercooler and im looking at this one any idia if this would work well
http://www.siliconeintakes.com/produ...bb188e9859c37d

i remember one of the senior mems likeing this website so i looked into it .whith this size intercooler would there have to be any modifications to fit into factory location( i dont mind minor cuts and welds but i want to keep the front steel beam behind the bumper)?

also if any one has ever blue printed a factory unit could i get a copy to compare size options, or if any one has bought and installed this unit could you share your expirience

i bought one very similar, i havnt put it in yet, but i believe very little to no modifications...i mean, ur probably going to have to make ur own brackets, but besides that i dont think u will have to relocate anything.

Default Oil cooler relocation

The Spearco style is a tight fit. I dont recall any major dismemberment required to get it in the car. However, I think the oil cooler requires relocation.

Sure it does. Improved heat exchange and lower pressure drop across the IC is worthwhile no matter what size piping you're running. Now doing it the other way around makes little sense as the IC doesn't flow well to begin with so higher flowing and higher volume piping may actually reduce responsiveness.

well true...lol but will 2.5" piping reduce the responsiveness? Because isnt the stock plastic piping 2.5"? or is it 2"?

Sure, it's a matter of volume and that's a HUGE difference in volume. Take a bicycle pump and fill a 1 liter bottle with 30psi. Then fill a 2 liter... which one takes longer? Also the smaller diameter piping grants a higher velocity intake charge (better at low RPM). I'm not saying the factory piping is great... I'm saying that.... oh god... can't believe I'm about to say it..... Bigger isn't always better.... This goes for intakes, throttle bodies, headers, exhaust and so on.

Factory IC inlet and outlet are 2". The factory piping is pretty crazy though and had restrictions all over the place where it's pinched down.

so what what would be the next step to factory pipes. i know i would need 2 pipe reducers to run this intercooler. im looking for a fast responding motor and what cre said about diamiter is just a perfect explanation, ( i know some of it because on my vintage race bikes im always messing whith velocity stacks for variouse tracks long and short.). i dont quite have the money for new intercooler pipes but i would like to optimize the facotry ones any idias?
