idle issues.
here what happens...and what i tried so far.
problem: 1987 supra/turbo 7mgte stalls only when i stop at stop sign or red light. (unless i keep rpms above 800) no check engine light at all until moment of stall. what i tried: went through all vacum lines, checked BOV (couldnt blow through it), cleaned IACV (made sure i cleaned under rubber boot) inspected throttle body (cleaned butterfly), removed and cleaned maf/afm (with air compressor) everything was clean. bought new battery (thinking it might be bad)... *just noticed that my ALT fuseable link (wire type) is totally not connected do to corrosion. this may sound dumb but...could this have been the prob all along? no functional alternator do to fuseable link??? gonna get part tommorow and install... did notice gauges dimming unless foot on throttle... im still learning... ty for any help in advance. crop ps..my big demon bumper is getting removed...going back to stock.. (nyc roads suck) |
update... went out and bought a 100amp fuseible link to replace corroded frayed one that wasnt connected.... low and behold, i open up the fuse box only to discover there ARE NO WIRES HOOKED UP TO THE DAM THING!!...(they were clipped) why do you think this was done by the previous owner? how can i wire this up correctly? smh

Whoever owned the car previously probably just bolted the two ends together... Wouldn't be the 1st time I've seen it. The TEWD will show you the wire colors of the two wires which run to it. There are only a couple heavier gauge wires in there.

yeah found them..they were bolted together like you said... would you believe that the alternator hasnt been changed since the late 80's!!!
gonna order a new alt this weekend..funds are running dry already!! her new name is money pit. |
If the alternator's not doing it's job it may just need a rebuild... It's probably been rebuilt in the past too. Look in the TSRM for the details. The brushes are dirt cheap from Napa. The Regulator isn't bad if bought third party either.
