Jet Chip For NA Supra
I was looking at a jet chip they offer for a na supra (turbo also). I have to send some part in to get it recalibrated, it suppose to increase my hp 20-25%. I was wondering if anybody knew about this part, is it worth it? will it harm my car? Its about 340 bucks, what do u think guyz?
no
no no no no lol spend your money on exhaust, intake, headers etc not chips ;) plus they're too salty and smell funny when they start rotting :p |
i stress the word no
nah...i wouldnt get a chip...haha i just had mine reflashed...but...i dont recommend getting one at all....just get an ecu...piggyback for starters and when you are on your way go snag a standalone...start with the basics...intake, exhaust, headers...work your way up... a lot of people think just slapping a big turbo on with nothing else will give them what they want... its not teh way to start and its not the only thing that will give you power...you gotta have everything work together.....just getting a big turbo on its own will leave you with a bunch of problems to start off with... address the problems one by one...but take smaller steps
Ok guyz lemme rephrase myself, i already have a HKS intake, pace setter cat-back exhaust, high flow cat, and pace setter headers! Should i get the ket chip now?
i wouldnt anyway but the choice is totally up to u.
Anybody else backing him up with that answer, supra girl any suggestions?
Question was...has anyone tried it??? I don't think so. I do know that on many vehicles, a chip, or moded ecu can give you 10-25% more power. These are usually done to V8s. I've ridden in many stock ones (I sold cars at Dodge and Toyota for 3 years), and customers have come back in and let me test their 'new found' Horses.
I believe the racing engineers have not spent any time on our older MKIIIs due to the lack of 'recouping' of their $$$ investment. (lack of a volume sales) |
im still against dejvid gettin the jet chip...i knwo u have the basic upgrades... but im still against it...but u might say im hypocritical since i had mine reflashed...i had my ecu reflashed because i had a 1jz motor installed... and i had a jdm ecu...so all my readings were wrong and i needed them to convert kph to mph...and all that nonsense...so technically i had mine reflashed so it would be applicable and practical...right now im running a standalone, as for teh jet chip...dont get it..its a waste...in my opinion
ok supraman, what do u suggest i should get that will really up my power? Just remember though, this is a Non Turbo supra.
ummm..haha a turbo?
haha ok that was the obvious answer...since it usually solves most problems.. or you can supercharge it...but thats if you want to go the boost route...if you dont...then u have a a good start since u have the basics down, next step you need to address is fuel...more fuel...more air...get a fuel rail and a bigger intake manifold, or try velocity stacks...aka individual throttle bodies, get some cams and cam gears, get the head redone...ported and polished...same with the block...get suspension for handling...good set of coilovers or a nice combination of springs and shocks...strut bars and anti sway bars...upgrade the clutch, if you want get it tuned..with a piggyback or a standalone...depending on how much power you will want...its definitely a plus since you'll be messing with the fuel management

More hp for the mk3
I would say if you want more hp and torque that isn't too costly change your underdrive pulleys up. I got the Unorthodox racing pulleys (they make them for turbo and NA) and i can definitely feel a difference. But if you can, go with supraman and get the turbo.
Someone earlier said that underdrive pulleys are bad for mkIII's. For Supraman's info, i have a 7m-gte sittin in the garage ready to rebuild, this is just somethin between time, i figure since i have some money on the side to try and make a pretty damn fast non turbo, i think it would be an awesome accomplishment to step up next to a turbo supra and leave it in a non turbo supra.
Hey go for it man do the turbo! its a great upgrade. I want to i jus don't have the money right now. How are the pulleys bad for the mkiii plez let me know i have had them on there for about 6 months.
ahh about the pulleys...all i remember is sometin about drag racing...and its better that you change them if thats how you want the car setup, turbo is always nice...though i will definitely admire you if you can hook up a nonturbo to be as fast as a turbo...without the heavy cams
I think the NA project is a possibility, i will let yall know how it goes, if anybody remembers the down side of the pulleys, let us know.
Well someone commented that the crank pulley wasn't a dampener pulley. I can's understand why someone would offer one that wasn't but you need that part on the crank.
The best you can do is get the air in and out as fast as you can. Compression is the best way to get power. The turbos just stuff more air in and acts the same way as more compression. If you could bump the compression up to 11 to one, I think you can still run on pump gas. Definately get the head ported. The most restrictive part to this whole thing is the intake though. If you could get an intake that could get more air in......well good luck on that. Like I said before, you could do away with the efi system and go for a triple Webber set up that would really wake that engine up. Anyone know what cfm the N/A intake has at the butterfly? There are things you can do, but it would take an engineer to make all the mechanical and electrical things work well together. Just a chip is not worth the money for the small hp gain. Keep us up to date on how you are doing. Russ |
So do not get pulleys or a chip?

no chip..no pulleys ...unless u got madd money, and to add onto what rnoswal said...if you do make it a high compression motor...you have to watch teh motor knocking a little more...and precombustion so u might wanna look at sometin that cools the motor a little...not sure if this also works for n/a cars...but for my 1jz i have the aquamist water sprayer... i dont know if can be used for n/a cars but ill check
